I'm not sure he will be chalking it up as a success. He's given away an asset and written off a loan of around £100M in exchange for a smaller asset and £40M. Would you be happy? |

Walking out of the ground last night (feels good to say that) I had a conversation about whether it would be enough to keep beating the worse teams in the division while losing to the top teams. By enough I meant "would we get enough points to go up?". A bit of number crunching this morning tells me: We have currently picked up 0.43PPG in our 7 games against the other 9 of the top 10, our win against Accrington being the only points gained. Contrast that to the 2.64PPG picked up in the 11 games against the bottom 14 so far. Projected over a 46 game season, this gives you a final total of around 82 points, enough to make the playoffs in pretty much every completed League 1 season. The obvious problem will come when we get to the playoffs and have to face one of those top teams. Lets hope its Accrington. |

They have gone for a % of capacity - 50% up to a maximum of 4,000. We happen to be one of the lucky ones with a capacity of over 8,000, so the cap applies to us. Reckon you are right about the travel being a factor in setting a cap at all, and can't imagine away fans being permitted any time soon. |

Anyone ITK, I'm curious, what do we do during the day tomorrow? Will we have hired out a local footy pitch for a bit of light training or something similar? I remember being in the cafe at the Holiday Inn on London Road before the P'boro game last season, Posh had stayed there the night before and they were all just hanging around before going on a slow walk along London Road. I thought it didn't look like very good preparation, then they went and smashed us 1-4. |

The Pools That chap who read the full time scores, and you could guess the result based on his tone when reading the home teams score. |
| Forum Reply | Doesn’t it seem insane that International and European football is even a thin at 15:51 8 Oct 2020
Think that's right that it is optional for EFL clubs. Championship clubs have, by and large, carried out testing at their own cost. L1 & L2 clubs haven't, due to cost and (rightly or wrongly) the potential impact of a high number of positive results. This does cause issues when cup games pit L1/L2 clubs against PL clubs, as happened when Hull played West Ham. PL clubs tend to offer testing to lower league clubs at their own expense but this does not have to be taken up, as Hull opted to do. Spurs paid for Leyton Orient players to be tested, then got a bye when a load of them came back positive. |

Take your point, but its not like they are packing onto Ryanair flights like most people would have to. There are huge protocols in place and anyone in possible breach of them (see Messrs Abraham, Sancho and Chilwell) aren't allowed near the teams. There is some common sense prevailing as well - England are playing Wales to limit travel, Spain played Portugal last night, New Zealand pulled out of a match with Belgium. Professional footballer is probably one of the safest jobs to have at the moment from a Covid viewpoint. |

This is a really nice thread to read, just lots of Town fans getting along and helping each other out. Far too many threads on here just descend into nastiness these days so it's refreshing to read! COYB |

Good, more than the actual season ticket I am missing the pocket fixture lists that have lived on my desk for the past decade! |
| Forum Reply | Wigan to be sold for £3m at 09:26 16 Sep 2020
I don't think they are close to being sold yet, still getting d!cked around by the admins as far as I can see. They had put a £3.5M price tag on the club, this is the market value of the property the club owns (eg the stadium and surrounding land) which is not affected by administration. The rest of the club (eg the players, the League One membership) are being sold for a nominal £1. In reality it will cost whoever buys them several million more to fund them this season. To say what we are worth... using the same logic we had £21M worth of assets in our last filed accounts. Whether anyone would pay anything like that is another matter and I would say no chance. |

Byrne and Morsy are off to Derby and Middlesbrough respectively and Massey is out for a month. Going forward they look okay albeit with not much strength in depth. Garner thrives off being the underdog and it feels inevitable he will score against us. At the back however they are very short of numbers. I would say they are the definition of "there for the taking" and would be looking at putting Hawkins/Norwood (if fit enough) up against whatever academy pair are at centre back. |

https://wiganathletic.com/news/2020/september/Statement-From-The-Joint-Administr Their administrators are "quietly optimistic that permission will be given" by the EFL for them to play on Sunday. The EFL are meeting this week to decide. What team they are able to put out is another matter, seems to be a case of whoever hasn't been flogged yet mixed in with the U23s. Hopefully, if they are allowed to play, we could grab another confidence boosting win a la Bolton last year. Wigan don't play Peterborough until 20th October, plenty of time to put a squad together |
| Forum Reply | Any early prem predictions? at 16:49 5 Aug 2020
Always fun this! Agree 1st - 4th. Spurs to have a torrid season and Mourinho to go around December. Brighton not so high, Leeds/Southampton top half in their place. Agree with your bottom 5 but not sure on the order, could make an argument for any one of them to go down! Tends to be defences that make the difference, based on that Newcastle and Palace to stay up, but can't see where either of their goals are coming from. Whoever gets Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins has a chance. |
| Forum Reply | Why start the season? at 10:39 5 Aug 2020
That's not really a valid comparison at all. Football clubs exist to play in leagues and compete for trophies and promotions. Each game has a result and points are awarded. Whether anyone turns up to watch or not is, like it or not, incidental. West End shows exist solely for the entertainment of the public, they are completely dependant on people turning up. |
| Forum Reply | Mel Morris just won Richard Keogh’s unfair dismissal case for him at 11:08 8 Nov 2019
Think they were well within their rights to sack Keogh, his actions amounted to gross misconduct. They were also within their rights to sack Lawrence and Bennett, but chose not to. That's their prerogative and the reasons were obvious even without Morris spelling it out here. Just because they chose not to sack the other two doesn't make Keogh's sacking unfair. |
