Joseph Mills - Forest Green Rovers
at 21:58 5 Aug 2020
I’m sure the club have a scouting department although of late (and by late I mean over the past 20 years) I’m not sure how successful it’s been but here’s a tip. We need a left back. Forest Green skipper Joseph Mills has turned down a new contract and is now a free agent. At League 2 level he’s a cracking attacking full back.... he’d do a job for us.
I know because I watched him play 10 odd times last season.
I’m sure the Portman Road hierarchy check TWTD for such tips :-)

Gloucestershire to Ipswich and back.
It’s an odd way to pass a life.
I don’t want much.... just getting a bit fed up of having all hope extinguished.
Is there a clause that after supporting Ipswich for a certain number of years you can be transferred to say Barcelona?
Still.... should be home for last orders
“Happy clapper” is now an insult
at 21:33 4 Mar 2020
I have just been called a “happy clapper” on the Evans out page.
I’m not entirely sure what one of those is.
Is it millennial speak for a w@nker?
North Essex pub advice
at 20:54 16 Feb 2020
Last year, ahead of a family trip to visit relatives, I turned to the good citizens of TWTD for pub recommendations as I was keen to show off the homeland as well as possible.
This Easter we are staying near Boxted. I was hoping I might get similar recommendations. To be honest, having previously visited The Sun Inn at Dedham, I can’t imagine anywhere in the area being better but I thought I’d ask.
Criteria: must be a historic old pub that serves good, local ale.
Thanks all - look forward to reading and researching your recommendations!
Really disappointed with Phil & Gav
at 15:21 31 Jan 2020
I’m disappointed the standard Deadline Day headline hasn’t been used on the site today.
“Quiet Transfer Deadline Day expected at Portman Road.”
Before detailing that [INSERT HISTORICALLY SMALLER TEAM THAN ITFC BUT WHO ARE NOW HIGHER UP IN THE PYRAMID]’s interest in [INSERT TALENTED TOWN YOUNGSTER] has cooled after they signed a.n.other
C’mon Phil and Gav.... still time left! (Keep up the good work chaps!)
What was the worst performance you’ve ever seen at Portman Road?
at 08:10 27 Dec 2019
Following on from a previous post claiming that yesterday was the worst, a simple question. Which Town performance stunk the famous old ground out the most?
Personally I remember a particularly dreadful Boxing Day effort against Birmingham in the 90s (I think it finished 0-1) and a League Cup defeat at home to Stockport.
I haven’t been going as much during the Mick years so missed the 1 up front, 2 holding midfielders fiasco against Rotherham.
Crowd for Blackpool?
at 22:14 18 Nov 2019
Hopefully a decent crowd for Blackpool? Just booked tickets and am hoping the 7+ hour round trip will be worth it!
Taking my Dad who has had a rough time of it health wise lately.... hoping for a similar outcome to my last visit to the Mecca of Football (Tranmere game).
Brooklyn bar tips
at 19:06 30 Sep 2019
Rather than travel to Fleetwood I’m heading to NYC this weekend to see my other sporting love, the Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants.
I am staying in Brooklyn (Bedford Stuyvesant). Has anyone been and can they recommend any local watering holes?
Well 16 hours later I got home.... WELL WORTH IT
at 22:54 28 Sep 2019
Up at 06:30 left home, got to Suffolk at 10, surprised my Dad whilst he was drinking a coffee in a cafe, reading the EADT.
“What are you doing here?”
“We’re going to see him!” (Gestures at picture of Lord Norwood on the back of the EADT)
Thought the formation didn’t really work in the first half. We needed another body in midfield. Credit to Lambert for switching it round.
What a buy KVY is! Thought Wilson was a consummate centre-half.... did exactly what needed to be done.
Cole Skuse (his Uncle laid my patio FYI).... if he wasn’t there we’d bloody miss him.
Super second half, great atmosphere and sunshine.
Drove home. M4 closed. Biblical floods in the West Country and aquaplaned several times. Home at 10pm. Brilliant day. Couldn’t do it every other weekend though.... the drive would kill me!
Apologies but we will lose tomorrow and it’s all my fault
at 23:00 27 Sep 2019
First trip to Portman Road tomorrow in 5 years. I’m driving from Gloucestershire to Suffolk first thing in the morning and surprising my 72 year old Dad (who is in not great health) whilst he’s tucking into his regular Saturday cafe breakfast with two tickets to the game.
My Dad was a regular in the Ramsey and Robson years... I can hear his voice now “Back in 1973 I paid two bob and half a florin to watch us beat Real Madrid.... how much did you pay for these tickets?” (£30 - I’ve gone for good ones)
Top of the League.... unbeaten.... against lowly opposition who I saw play in their Play-Off Semi against Forest Green and who weren’t great other than their main goal threat... a certain Mr Norwood.....
It’s all set up to go tits up under Sod’s Law.
Tromsø Travel Tips
at 22:14 16 Jun 2019
Off to Tromsø next weekend to take part in the Midnight Sun running festival (I’m doing the 10km slowly... like a 2 stone overweight 42 year old should do.)
Aside from the beer being eye wateringly expensive and taking a jumper and sleeping mask has anyone been and have any tips?
at 20:18 31 May 2019
I don’t do “def info” but I reckon it’s a done deal:
1. Local football reporter in Stroud (nearest town to Forest Green) has just told me the deal is 99.9% done (Norwood is ex-FGR)
2. Check out Norwood’s Twitter. He’s just posted a Tweet clearly signposting he’s off....
On previous basis (Charlie Austin?) until he’s “holding up the scarf” I remain sceptical but....
Great signing. He’s got great movement, good finisher and is an absolute pain in the @rse to play against.
Bull at Bacton
at 20:05 5 May 2019
Posted here a while ago looking for recommendations to impress the wife on a return trip to the Motherland.
However recommended The Bull at Bacton thanks. A pint of Adnams Broadside for me and a Suffolk gin for Mrs Wickwar. Splendid!
