What was the worst performance you’ve ever seen at Portman Road?
at 08:10 27 Dec 2019
Following on from a previous post claiming that yesterday was the worst, a simple question. Which Town performance stunk the famous old ground out the most?
Personally I remember a particularly dreadful Boxing Day effort against Birmingham in the 90s (I think it finished 0-1) and a League Cup defeat at home to Stockport.
I haven’t been going as much during the Mick years so missed the 1 up front, 2 holding midfielders fiasco against Rotherham.
Crowd for Blackpool?
at 22:14 18 Nov 2019
Hopefully a decent crowd for Blackpool? Just booked tickets and am hoping the 7+ hour round trip will be worth it!
Taking my Dad who has had a rough time of it health wise lately.... hoping for a similar outcome to my last visit to the Mecca of Football (Tranmere game).
Brooklyn bar tips
at 19:06 30 Sep 2019
Rather than travel to Fleetwood I’m heading to NYC this weekend to see my other sporting love, the Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants.
I am staying in Brooklyn (Bedford Stuyvesant). Has anyone been and can they recommend any local watering holes?
Well 16 hours later I got home.... WELL WORTH IT
at 22:54 28 Sep 2019
Up at 06:30 left home, got to Suffolk at 10, surprised my Dad whilst he was drinking a coffee in a cafe, reading the EADT.
“What are you doing here?”
“We’re going to see him!” (Gestures at picture of Lord Norwood on the back of the EADT)
Thought the formation didn’t really work in the first half. We needed another body in midfield. Credit to Lambert for switching it round.
What a buy KVY is! Thought Wilson was a consummate centre-half.... did exactly what needed to be done.
Cole Skuse (his Uncle laid my patio FYI).... if he wasn’t there we’d bloody miss him.
Super second half, great atmosphere and sunshine.
Drove home. M4 closed. Biblical floods in the West Country and aquaplaned several times. Home at 10pm. Brilliant day. Couldn’t do it every other weekend though.... the drive would kill me!
Apologies but we will lose tomorrow and it’s all my fault
at 23:00 27 Sep 2019
First trip to Portman Road tomorrow in 5 years. I’m driving from Gloucestershire to Suffolk first thing in the morning and surprising my 72 year old Dad (who is in not great health) whilst he’s tucking into his regular Saturday cafe breakfast with two tickets to the game.
My Dad was a regular in the Ramsey and Robson years... I can hear his voice now “Back in 1973 I paid two bob and half a florin to watch us beat Real Madrid.... how much did you pay for these tickets?” (£30 - I’ve gone for good ones)
Top of the League.... unbeaten.... against lowly opposition who I saw play in their Play-Off Semi against Forest Green and who weren’t great other than their main goal threat... a certain Mr Norwood.....
It’s all set up to go tits up under Sod’s Law.
Tromsø Travel Tips
at 22:14 16 Jun 2019
Off to Tromsø next weekend to take part in the Midnight Sun running festival (I’m doing the 10km slowly... like a 2 stone overweight 42 year old should do.)
Aside from the beer being eye wateringly expensive and taking a jumper and sleeping mask has anyone been and have any tips?
at 20:18 31 May 2019
I don’t do “def info” but I reckon it’s a done deal:
1. Local football reporter in Stroud (nearest town to Forest Green) has just told me the deal is 99.9% done (Norwood is ex-FGR)
2. Check out Norwood’s Twitter. He’s just posted a Tweet clearly signposting he’s off....
On previous basis (Charlie Austin?) until he’s “holding up the scarf” I remain sceptical but....
Great signing. He’s got great movement, good finisher and is an absolute pain in the @rse to play against.
Bull at Bacton
at 20:05 5 May 2019
Posted here a while ago looking for recommendations to impress the wife on a return trip to the Motherland.
However recommended The Bull at Bacton thanks. A pint of Adnams Broadside for me and a Suffolk gin for Mrs Wickwar. Splendid!
What’s your earliest TWTD memory?
at 19:40 14 Apr 2019
(Apparently we’ve been relegated to League 1 but, a bit like Brexit, I’m try to ignore it in the hope it all gets reversed somehow)
What’s your earliest TWTD memory?
I wrote to the paper fanzine in about 1994 extolling the virtues of Steve Sedgley. We paid £1m for him 25 years ago which illustrates how little our purchasing power has improved!

Been looking forward to a pint all week. Bit too much. Too malty. Think my tastebuds must be playing up.
Usually a nice pint. Maybe my tastebuds are kaput.
What lies in wait in L1
at 22:30 13 Mar 2019
Having watched the game last night and read comments on here there’s a sense of optimism about how we might go in L1. The idea that with some key additions our crop of kids can lead the recovery.
Due to living in Gloucestershire I go and see Forest Green a lot. A few weeks ago I watched them play Lincoln who are currently top of L2. Forest Green are an incredibly young side who played some nice stuff. They got beaten up by Lincoln. Matt Rhead and John Akinde beat the crap out of them. The Cowleys (who were advocated on here by some as a MM replacements) favour tactics reminiscent of John Beck’s Cambridge in the early 90s.
I’m not saying we should be fearful but some physicality may be needed to tackle what lies in wait next season.
Suffolk pub advice for an exile
at 18:57 10 Mar 2019
Planning a trip with Mrs Wickwar and the Junior Wickwars to visit the Suffolk based relatives in early May. If negotiations go well I may be able to sneak a trip to Portman Rd..... we’ve hired an Airbnb in Hunston (between Bury & Stowmarket). It’s not a part of Suffolk I know well (I’m a Sudbury lad originally) but I’m keen to show off the “mother county” in its best light.
Can anyone recommend a nearby pub? I like old, country, beams etc.... I’ve read about the Buxhall Crown - any good? Must have a good pint too. Thanks in advance all!
Going to Wales vs England tomorrow
at 22:01 22 Feb 2019
11am train. Arrive in Cardiff at noon. 4 hours of “sampling the atmosphere” before heading into the cauldron.
Can’t wait. Anyone else been? Meant to be a hell of an atmosphere. Any bar tips?
Buy out Evans - the solution
at 22:27 4 Dec 2018
Almost certainly cloud cuckoo land stuff but if 50,000 individuals were willing to pay £1,800 we’d raise £90m.... would Evans cut his losses at £50m leaving the remainder to fund ongoing trading losses and a modest investment in playing staff?
I’m in - I’ve just got a new credit card.....
Webster & McGoldrick
at 22:03 30 Oct 2018
Someone else today posted about David McGoldrick's ability to put a string of games together now that's he has left Portman Road.
In a similar vein my Bristol City supporting friends down here in the West Country are gleefully rubbing how good Adam Webster is in my face.
I keep pointing out that, when they signed him, I did say "he is an excellent player IF you can keep him fit."
I don't understand why these players suddenly stop getting injured when they leave Ipswich.... admittedly it is only two. On a brighter note was that Emyr I saw training in the pictures today.... it'll be Adeyemi next!
Up the Town.
