I half agree, in that we prioritised going up over resale value investments, but we also didn’t pay material fees for any of those experienced heads. Every time we spent a big fee (Davis, Clarke, Hirst, Broadhead?, Taylor) we had a strong opportunity to recuperate that investment, and even see it grow with a successful season or two given their age profiles. But Smodizcs is older. And we would be paying peak prices (5-10x those above?), so there is a reasonable chance you sell at a loss or he runs down the contract. It wouldn’t entirely surprise me, given his output and intelligence, and premier league money changes the equation, but I still don’t think he fits the previous recruitment ‘model’ |
 | Forum Thread | Harry Clarke appreciation at 23:10 22 Jan 2024
I feel fans have been overly critical recently. In the past two matches he has played over three hours against arguably two of the very best left wingers in the division (+ Summerville), perhaps premier league players in waiting, and kept them mostly quiet. He deserves credit and more appreciation from supporters - we're lucky to have him in our team. |

It's an interesting idea, but I think dividing the league into eights is very arbitrary - is Millwall really a point tougher than Stoke? It would probably make sense to pull out the top 4 separately, given they are 'six pointers' and have a reasonable gap. Ultimately, it's the fact that Southampton have to play the other top 3 all away from home during their run in that makes it significantly harder. |
 | Forum Reply | Clarke has been atrocious so far at 19:41 13 Jan 2024
Not a great first 30, but from then onwards mostly nullified Clarke (with support from Burns and Hutchinson), avoided a second yellow and was a real threat. For the goal, you can see that he steps outside as he expects Leif to cover his inside so that Clarke can push on to the overlapping man. Instead, Leif overlaps and it leaves the space inside. It’s unfortunate when you get the two fullbacks defending the same side following a corner, who aren’t used to defending together. It needed better communication between the two of them. Since McKenna came in our players do an excellent job managing themselves while on yellow cards. It’s really impressive. It shows how much the players think through their roles, and also the trust he McKenna places in the players. Is it only Harry Clarke that’s received a red (for 2 yellows) since McKenna came in? |

I would never say 'expecting', but confidence grows. I'm also not thinking too hard about it until 22nd Jan. We'll also have played Sunderland twice, and both Southampton and WBA away of the (current) top 6 - only leaving home matches at the latter two. Even then I wouldn't say 'expecting.' Leeds have the quality in their squad to match our form in the second half of last season. [Post edited 14 Dec 2023 3:18]

Most people don’t oppose all games on Sky. It’s just the ridiculous times, like Monday evening, for long distance away fixtures that don’t take traveling fans into consideration. For the ‘average’ fan who follows a typical working week, the change to a Monday will impact both the Monday and Tuesday workdays. Sky subscribers could still watch it if it was on the Sunday, but of course in reality they mostly wouldn’t because they would choose to watch the premier league instead at that time. So it’s only really of benefit to non-ITFC Sky subscribers. |

It's one reason his yellow at WBA was so frustrating. It was unneccessary given the stage in the game (2-0 down) and position on the pitch, but I guess you have to accept it as part of his edge and fire he brings to the team. If he had three yellows in hand then I would back him to make it through. But, there's no way he avoids one against Norwich, and he would do well to get through the three before that - which includes away fixtures against Middlesborough and Watford - without a single card. I've always found the arbitrary nature of which fixtures players miss during a disciplinary ban hard to swallow. |

I would be very surprised if he played any part. When he signed, at the beginning of the month, McKenna stated that his fitness level is equivalent to the start of preseason training. Given preseason typically lasts ~8 weeks then that would suggest he would be in contention to feature from November. I would guess we're aiming to give him competitive minutes after the Novement international break, weekend of the 18th. |

‘Should be winning’ is an unreasonable expectation. This england squad is no better than France’s. I also think Spain will look stronger by the Euros. |
 | Forum Reply | Greg Leigh on the move? at 13:01 21 Aug 2023
I generally agree, unless you replace with a younger understudy with more potential. You're assuming we go after a back up player though. Ashton spoke about upgrading the starting lineup and we could target a first choice LCB that also plays left back. |

I would be sad to see him go. He's been a more than capable replacement whenever required and seems like a good character. But, if I had to pick a fault, I think he's not particularly versatile. He's only really providing an option as a second-choice left back as others are likely ahead of him to cover centre back (e.g. Dom Ball). I wonder if we would look to replace him with a player that can offer more positional flexibility (e.g. left centre back or left wing as well). As others have stated, given his age and the minutes contributed it would be smart to take the fees and reinvest. |

It wasn't that long ago he was deemed a top talent for league one. Some people even touted him as the best in the league. Someone we should aim for as a transfer target, despite the attitude issues. He's just received a 20 month jail sentence for punching a 60 year-old lady outside a kebab shop at 3am. His downward trajectory was somewhat predictable, but few would have thought it would reach such depths. Sad all round.
