I initially put 2nd choice left back, but Donacien can play both so had to go for a rapid reword.

At the moment Clements is our 4th choice full back after Kenlock, Donacien and Emmanuel I’d have thought.

But weren't we supposed to be doing a lot of this in the second half of last season? I'm not saying I disagree with you but I thought we were supposed to be ahead of other clubs because we could experiment for the last 10 games of last season. I also got the impression PL thought Germany was really important - although I guess we're not likely to make many changes from this point anyway.

p.s. I reckon we'll sign Keane. PL knew about his injury situation yesterday which suggests they're in contact.

Quite a few players left at the end of contracts, end of loans so I expected there to be a little scope but may be if Bart stays there isn't.

That's a surprise to me. Suggests the plan was to sell Bart to get a few in? Or is PL pulling the wool over our eyes?

(Sorry if this was discussed yesterday, I missed that little quote in Phil's article yesterday.)

Squad

Unless we sell someone substantial I think the only way we'd do this is by signing a Mark Venus type who can play CB and LB and the same with LW and CF. I reckon the latter would be a loan to cover Sears until January.

I was at my best in the 90s, although probably a bit of a cult, and a lot of my comments go over heads. But I think of a footballer that reminds me of.

BART DEAL OFF - FAILED MEDICAL
at 13:03 25 Jun 2019

That final sentence is key I think. If Bart left I expected to see a new keeper, centre back, left back, left winger and striker. Now I wonder if we'll have to make do with a left back and someone who can play left wing and striker (and i'm not sure we could afford Washington if Bart stays).

Bart had his medical on Thursday and still hasn't signed for Millwall but was at training yesterday with us. I've seen rumours of failed medicals and late interest from other clubs, whilst i'm not sure I believe either you have to think something is happening. Lambert's comments today make it even more interesting.

Donacien, does Lambert
at 10:39 23 Jun 2019

There was an EADT piece recently that said PL had decided to that Donacien and Emmanuel were his right backs for the season. Now that could be paper talk or even us getting it out there we wouldn’t sell for nothing, but I’d say a player who can play at right back, left back and centre back is a useful squad player at the least.

Logical.

Who is making the step up this season then?
at 18:54 20 Jun 2019

Woolfenden. I think a defender who is comfortable on the ball is a great asset for us. I’m hoping he’ll play the majority of games with Nsiala and Chambers fighting it out for the left sided central defender slot.

Millwall closing in on Bart
at 13:22 20 Jun 2019

I wouldn't be surprised if one or two players are lined up now. We seem keen to get our squad together in time for Germany which is two weeks away. A left back, a left winger and a new keeper? Others ins might depend on departures.

And would play wide left for us, I would have thought, so 10-12 goals is good I’d say.

Why has O'Neill confirmed that there's been interest in Bart?
at 13:30 19 Jun 2019

I'd expect him to go to a Championship club who plays pretty direct football, that probably means Millwall, Forest, Sheff Wed and Brum are realistic. Millwall are definitely in the market for a keeper, not sure about the others.

I wonder if the rest of our transfer dealings depend on shifting his wages and he's looking to flush out the interest so we know where we stand?

I dunno why but I've always assumed Bart would go.

So which positions are we definitely short?
at 13:08 18 Jun 2019

We have 3 strikers and only play 1.

PL is apparently going to have Donacien and Emmanuel at RB.

Perhaps CB but i'm hoping Woolfie will get games, so with Nsiala and Chambers that should cover us for most the season. Perhaps a 4th choice so Ndaba can get some games somewhere?
