I think it’s that Allardyce is widely seen (rightly or wrongly) as the quintessential saviour of relegation and Lambert failed to do that in his last 3 jobs. Presume it was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment. |

That’s how Lambert was described by Jim White on the excellent Blue Monday Podcast this week. I’m not sure you can get a more cutting description to be honest! [Post edited 23 Feb 14:38]

Evans is clearly waiting until only 1 out of the Cowleys, Cook and Pearson are still available before he makes his move. He can’t decide which is the best candidate so this is the best way to choose. |

Barry Cotter- forgot about him. Interesting he never seemed to make the step up after initial hype. Never even mentioned as a possible first team RB anymore. Presume we are just running his contract down and he will be released in the summer... |

I’m not referring to our current position, but at some point if we continue along the same trajectory we will be at risk... |

Yeah, maybe it will be good to regroup in league two and come back stronger...... |

...do we stop talking about promotion and start talking about a relegation fight? |

A lower league Gerrard would be good! (Šumulikoski anyone?!). As I said in league one it’s hard to find players of that callibre obviously, but someone with that drive and a bit of ability would be nice. Remember Magilton was playing in the reserves and dropped down a league, but I get that the circumstances were different and he bought into Burley’s project and ambition. I think you’re right about Chambers- I think he probably still holds the respect of the players and has those standards, but I feel he isn’t able to be a leader in terms of driving performances on the pitch. I watched this clip where Peter Crouch talked about playing with Steven Gerrard:
Where he basically talks about standards at the club, how players like Gerrard demanded more from the players around them. It reminded me of the interviews on Blue Monday with Jim Magilton where he talked about when he joined Ipswich and drove the intensity of the training up, and brought everyone up a level, eventually culminating with his man of the match performance against Bolton in the 5-3 and our promotion. We haven’t had anyone like this for a while. Someone who is respected by the other players, demands more from them and leads by example on the pitch. Increasing the expectation on a daily basis and getting them all through tough games, grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck etc. The players are just too comfortable. Who did we last have that was like this? I guess depressingly we are unlikely to find anyone that fits this profile in league one. Downes perhaps could be if he stays, from what I’ve seen on and off the pitch, but sounds like he will be off if we don’t go up. [Post edited 29 Jan 19:38]

 | Forum Reply | How hopeful are we that Evans makes the right decision with the next manager? at 17:06 28 Jan 2021
It’s obviously hard to say, not knowing the discussions that go on, or the thought processes of those with the power, but we as a fanbase (going by TWTD/Twitter) seem pretty sure/hopeful that Cowleys/Cook/Dyer would be on the shortlist. Who knows if we are correct. I would probably not be too unhappy with any of those 3 for various reasons. Each has their positives and potential limitations, but as a fansbase I think we would get behind them. Regarding the post above re Pearson, it’s controversial but I actually think he would be ok. He’s had a decent managerial career and many would argue that he laid the foundations for Leicester’s title win. I heard an interview with him recently and he actually came across as a very intelligent, thoughtful and humble guy. But his reputation may precede him and the fans may not be overly enamoured at the thought of him being on charge. |
