Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Saturday, 18th Dec 2010 20:43

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that on-loan winger Andros Townsend is set to return to Tottenham. The 19-year-old was due to remain with the Blues until the end of the season.

Keane said: “Andros is going back to Tottenham. I’ve been speaking to Andros for the last few days and I’ve been in touch with [Spurs assistant first team coach] Tim Sherwood.

“It’s all agreed with Tottenham that he’ll go back because he wasn’t getting the minutes here.”

Townsend made 14 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his only goal in the 3-1 defeat to Swansea earlier this month.

Bad news unless of course 0'Connor makes that position his own now?

Really don't understand this one, thought he was one of the best of the loanies we currently have..! Keane you really are impossible to figure out..!!

Bugger! A decent player ...... maybe Keano will do a half-Nelson on 'Arry and get him signed up permanently.

Suspect Spurs have recalled him due to him not getting games, rather than us sending him back. RK does seem to have a real problem with balance in midfield and seems to want to play five central midfielders across the park.

He also has the same problem with playing centre backs at full back too.

This is surprise news, as we had agreed the loan for the season and most would agree that Townsend was the best of the loanees. At least he provided an attacking option down the left. I suppose he wanted to leave Ipswich because he was not being given a fair chance by Roy Keane. Oh well, best of luck for the future Andros.

I agree it is a chance for O'Connor to take that left side position, as he did very well today. Why on earth was he left out for so many months up to now? More strange management from our boss.

I liked this lad but I do think Keane has got it right here. He is talented but I feel he lacks an end product. I thought Shane o conor done well today too.

very strange i think he has offered us something different, a real individual threat and he should have been given more minutes!

Livermore hasnt played much either. townsend was miles better than livermore.i wish he had gone back , and not andros. Cant fathom out why he didnt play more and very rarely was left on the pitch for the full 90 mins aswell !

This is simple - Spurs want him back. Thought O'Conner did well tonight. Would much prefer for one of our permanent players to be given a chance above a loanee. Perhaps Civelli is about to return as well?

ITFC fans are so hard to figure out. Moan, moan, moan about the number of loan players and now one is due to return and people STILL moan. Pathetic.

A real shame as he is a real threat with speed and premier class, hope he isn't just going back to spurs to fester in the reserves or worse go out on loan to another championship side!

Er....

Anyone figure this one out? Quite frankly. Wrong in every respect. He's got pace, he beats people, he hugs the touch line, he works hard and he delivers better balls across the box than anyone else we've got. Keane must think her can get someone better for the loan cash in jan. If we're saving loan cash though, send livermore back.

Jas think people are probably only moaning as he was our best loan player a naturalwinger and always put in a good shift. Don't agree with all the speculation though, I agree he was probably re called due to lack of hours, what I don't understand is why he lacked hours he should have got played every week. Over to you now share then !!

For pity's sake.

Many complain we're not building our own side and have too many loanees and then moan because one is being sent back.

Townsend was never going to sign for us - we need to be building our own team / squad. Yes, he's been useful but that's all. The way forward isn't loan signings and the more Roy realises this the better.

Shane got a decent run out today and looked just fine. Delaney is back so things are looking positive there. If Roy has noticed his failings then so be it. MK also did his bit in a difficult situation.

Onwards and upwards.

I would put money on him going out on loan to another Championship club. No way is he going to get more time on the pitch with Spurs than he would with us.

Barhamblue added 21:55 - Dec 18
Jeera; top post.. It's so good to read a positive attitude. Your right all the ones who are moaning are the ones that say we have too many loan players. Shocking!.I would much rather see Shane kick on as he is our player

What did he actually do? How many games did he win or turn in our favour? Not many. OK some s=good performances but where was the end product? How many times did he get to the deadball line and send in killer crosses? he's a crowd pleaser and will be a good player no doubt, but not doing enough for us just now.
