Bowyer Signing Confirmed
Bowyer Signing Confirmed
Sunday, 10th Jul 2011 21:40

Town have confirmed the signing of Lee Bowyer on a one-year deal with the option of a second season. On Wednesday, TWTD reported that the midfielder would join the Blues on his return from his holiday ahead of this week's pre-season games in Holland.

Having put pen to paper on his contract, the former Birmingham, Charlton, Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle man will now meet up with the rest of the squad, who flew to their Eindhoven training camp this morning.

Bowyer says he's pleased to be joining Town: "There was interest from other clubs but Ipswich is the right choice for me.

"I know all about the traditions of the club and the history after working with Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle. I know it's a family club but having met the manager, I know it's also an ambitious one and that's very important for me.

"Everything I heard from the manager was very positive. He wants to get Ipswich back in the Premier League and I'm looking forward to playing my part in trying to make that happen."

Blues manager Paul Jewell added: "We're obviously delighted to have signed a player of Lee's quality.

"Anyone who has seen Lee play over the years knows he is a winner and he will bring that winning mentality into our dressing room."

News of Town's interest in the 34-year-old one-time England international first broke last Saturday with Leeds, Derby and unnamed Premier League clubs also believed to have shown interest in the controversial 5ft 9in tall Londoner. The Blues have also hinted that there could be further transfer news on Monday.

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Gianni Zuiverloon has completed his move to La Liga side Real Mallorca.

He's just what we've been missing for years. At last our midfield will have some steel in it. Him and Bullard would've been a dream partnership. We still need to get rid of a few...Martin, Scotland to name two. Now we need PJ to buy 3 or so young 'uns for the future. At last we can start to forget the team Keane put together. Horrific!!

Real quality on a very sensible contract, (hope your watching Hull), the prospect of Bullard in the middle also, would surly give us the best central midfield in the Championship by a mile and could put a lot more bums on seats, sign him up!!

I am pleased to get him as he will add steel to the centre of midfield, and getting a player with all those years of Premier League experience on a free transfer sounds a good deal. The "one-year deal with the option of a second season" sounds better than an outright two-year contract, as I guess he would need to make a certain number of appearances to trigger that (do we have any more details?).

Welcome Lee. Just the sort of midfield general our side badly missed last season. Just need the creative/attacking midfielder, another CB and PJ's additional striker. COYB

Where are all the negative comments tonight? Or are the kiddies all tucked up in bed for school tomorrow??

Good signing I think - if we did get Bullard, real experience in the middle - should of asked him Friday in the Mayfair!!

I can understand why some fans are dubious about this signing, but IMO it is a good one. I wonder who we may 'potentially' sign tomorrow?

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss
Best news of the weekend and the signing of the summer for us so far.
This man could be the difference between a mid table finish and a playoff berth.
Cant wait til the first game down Bristol. Just hope we can get Billy Sharp in and that should just about do it.
Come on you Blue Boysssssssss

Sir Bobby signed him and did not regret it. Should be a great signing on the field. I hope he is not the person he once was for the sake of the team spirit. He is undoubtedly a class player.

What we need...one more striker, somebody big and strong for chops to feed off. a left winger, treacy obviously. a right back hmm pj can find one, a cresswell equivalent would be good. That would free edwards up to bomb forward and give him time to get a tax disc for his car.then a centre half with a right foot nextf. And finally a creative midfielder to complement bowyer, who i rate. I will say it till i am blue in the face, this will cost money. And my choice is whittingham from cardiff.
