Andrews Keen to Remain With Town
Andrews Keen to Remain With Town
Wednesday, 2nd Nov 2011 17:17

Loanee midfielder Keith Andrews says he can’t see himself going back to parent club Blackburn Rovers and has reiterated his desire to remain with the Blues. The Republic of Ireland international is due to stay at Portman Road until January.

Andrews says he has no intention of returning to Ewood Park and, despite reported interest from Premier League pair Wigan and Swansea, would like to stay with Town: "I can't envisage myself going back to Blackburn in any shape or form.

"I know I've got 18 months left on my contract there but I really don't want to be there. I've come here and had a new lease of life here. I'm sure something will get done in January."

Boss Paul Jewell recently said that he has already been speaking to Town’s loan players’ parent clubs and is keen to keep his current squad together for the second half of the season.

Defender Danny Collins's 93-day loan spell is up after the Barnsley game on December 10th and Reece Wabara is with the Blues until early January, while Daryl Murphy and David Stockdale are at Portman Road for the season, although Fulham have a 24-hour recall on their goalkeeper.

^^^ Is correct. Certainly makes more noise on the field than the current captain!

Definitely keep him - get rid of Leadbitter, and sign another (under 30 please) midfielder and we're sorted. Apart from another striker that is. And a goalie if Stockdale leaves..and a centre half if Collins leaves.

The best Ipswich player called Keith since the days of Bertschin

Yes, he has done very well. The problem though, is with Leadbitter, Bowyer and Bullard - all four are too similar. If Andrews stays probably two of the others will have to drop out - probably Bowyer and maybe Bullard - unless he can pick up some form. Andrews has 100% been the best of the batch. We need more pace and width in midfield especially as the diamond has been found out.

He'll have to up his game a bit for me. Promising start but poor in the last three games despite scoring. Woeful against millwall...

Yes! Great News! Really pleased with him, they way he goes about it, and he's a true professional! Scored a good amount of goals, and has good link up play! Him and Bullard in the centre of the middle, with martin and someone else out wide! Maybe JET? - He clearly has the potential, but doesn't look like he can be bothered, but he definitely has it in him! Anyway, sign him up PJ! COYB!<3

Can go missing sometimes but for the most part been brilliant. Turned 1 point against Leeds into 3 (along with Scotland), turned a poor performance against Pompey into three points, did his bit against Cov (great goal) and had a hand in Scotland and Chops' goals at Cardiff. Thats a fair few points he's earned for us.

Also, has anyone seen how influential Liam Trotter has been for Millwall?! Wish we didn't let him go! They won 3-0 at the weekend against coventry, and he got three assists! Watch it on the BBC Highlights! Knew we should've kept him!

Has experience and goals so would be a great buy at the right price. However if we are looking to the future can't help think that we need a balance of experience and pace in our midfield and all we have at the moment with the suspect diamond shape is experience.
The lack of pace was again evident against Palace and it looked like Dads against Sons at certain points.Yes bring in Andrews but also bring in some pace on the flanks either in midfield or to replace Edwards. How about give Carson and or Martin another chance? Either that or buy Zaha from Palace.!!

Can obviuosly do a job for us
Think that Jewell needs to find the right blend in midfield before Ipswich commit to him - from what I have seen he can score but cannot tackle and our midfield needs more bite and energy as a priority.
Does Andrews play a more defensive role internationally?

In general, yes Jas0999, though similarity is probably more with Bowyer. Andrews is 30, still relatively young, can't see Bowyer going beyond the next season if he stays, so Andrews would be ideal. He is picking up Bowyer's midfield goal scoring slack.

Similar in many ways to Tommy Miller, in that he goes missing for large parts of the game, but has a habit of scoring goals.

I would ask him to become younger.

jas0999 out of the midfielders you mentioned Leadbitter is clearly the weak link, no Town fan would pick Leadbitter in a team above Bullard unless they were trying to justify his signing and money wasted

bluebare added 08:49 - Nov 3
let him go just his goals that have kept him in the team

CornardBlue added 12:33 - Nov 3
Agree sign him and make him captain, Leadbitter must be sold in January if he will not sign another contract we cannot afford to loose money on him like we did on Norris so we will need a new captain.

Not since John wark have we had a midfielder who can score with such regularity and I for one hope he stays. I was underwhelmed when we signed him but not anymore!
