Burnley's Marney Linked Again Monday, 30th Apr 2012 15:17
Town are again being linked with Burnley midfielder Dean Marney with Brighton and Hove Albion and others clubs also said to be eyeing the 28-year-old former Spurs man. TWTD revealed that the Blues were interested in the Londoner a year ago with Town also mentioned in connection with the former England U21 international in January.
Marney started his career with Tottenham, during which time he went out on loan to Swindon, QPR, Gillingham and Norwich.
Having made only four starts and seven sub appearances for Spurs, scoring two goals, both in a 5-2 victory over Everton, the Barking-born player joined Hull City in July 2006 for an undisclosed fee believed to be around the £1 million mark.
After four years, 111 starts, 27 games from the bench, nine goals and a promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, 6ft tall Marney left the Tigers for Burnley for a fee reported to be around £500,000 in May 2010.
Since then Marney, whose contract is up next summer, has made 71 starts and 10 sub appearances for the Lancastrians, scoring three times, and was a regular in the Clarets side during 2011/12.

Not bad, but what about Keith Treacy? After Burnley signed him last summer ahead of us he ended the season out on loan at Sheff Wed

Seems to be no better than we already have, average championship CM, and not the creative sort we need.
jabberjackson added 15:32 - Apr 30

It's all speculation at this stage - it's going to be a long Summer! I hope this is just speculation. He's a poor player.

Last year everyone we were " linked " with Leicester were sniffing around ! This time it's Brighton ! Can we pleased be " linked " with someone they aren't interested in ! At this rate our " linked with " human chain will reach from ITFC to scum land by the time the season kicks off !

I'm split over McCann. Think he's a quality player and would make a good play-maker and set piece specialist , but his age may well us off. At 32 how many years at this level has he got left? Not sure what his fitness/injury record is. Could be worth a risk, but can we afford many more risks? Can't say I know anything about Marney. Heard he's impressed towards the end of the season but had done little else before that?

No Thank You......He would be a waist of time no better than what we have got. Peterbough have put George Boyde on the transfer list he would do us fine...

No thanks, average, would rather have George Boyd of Peterborough, decent player and is creative reminds me of a younger Jimmy Bullard!

I thought we had an excellent pairing in Hyam and Drury, with Bullard, Carson and Stevenson as back up. If Lawrence can come through the ranks as well I think the centre is looking strong. More worried about full back, centre half, left wing and keeper. A big lump up front would be handy to. Jewel, put down that pie and sort it out, theres a good lad.

Oh the joy of summer speculation... wake me up when we sign someone.
Mark added 17:49 - Apr 30
Let's start by looking at players whose contracts are up this summer, and snap up the free transfers before they go elsewhere. By free transfers, ideally I mean players under 30 whose clubs want to keep them but who are deciding to move on.

jabberjackson - really??? Bold statement, never heard that one. Maybe you can show us all the link to prove it. Chopschipsallin - What about David Wright? Joe Royle??? As for the player himself, I have always thought he is a decent player, but would him and Drury be too similar...

Why, why, why! Let's hope it's a smoke screen! FFS GET BOYD! Talented, best years ahead, can score, not another typical clogger.
