Brown Set to Join On Loan
Friday, 22nd Feb 2013 20:37

TWTD understands that Manchester United defender Reece Brown will be joining the Blues on loan until the end of the season. News of Town’s interest in the 21-year-old younger brother of former England international Wes broke this lunchtime.

Earlier this season, Brown, primarily a central defender, made 10 appearances while on loan at Coventry, playing alongside January signing David McGoldrick, before being recalled to Old Trafford due to his lack of opportunities after the change of manager at the Ricoh Arena.

England U19 and U20 international Brown, who is 6ft 3in tall, has previously had spells on loan at Bradford, Doncaster and Oldham, and has also played as a holding midfielder and at full-back. He is yet to make his Red Devils debut.

A number of other clubs are also believed to have been interested in signing Brown on loan. Mick McCarthy had played down the chances of adding further signings to his squad — he already has the five domestic loanees permitted in a matchday squad — but Brown’s versatility may have persuaded him to add him as cover for a number of areas of his squad.

I always thought Wes was an odd looking human being, but, good gracious, what is with the little tuft?? ;-)

Whilst I have been critical of the loan system (I would prefer to see our youngsters being given a chance) if we must sign other clubs' youngsters then this is exactly the sort of player we should should be signing; in an ideal world he will do well nd we can make him permanent.

Why oh why oh why! Give me strength! Another pointless loanee! I hate loans but we've already maxed out the numbers,by leaving 1 out so this guy plays to keep fergie happy, then disappoint the loanee dropped and their parent club! What's wrong with kisnorbo, mings, ainsley???????

as written in Headline paragraph, he is a holding midfielder as well as CB

My question is this: why would Brown want to come to ITFC to sit on the bench? He is primarily a central defender and surely we are not going to replace Smith or Chambers, who have been developing a decent partnership, with a 21-year-old? I welcome him if he is just cover, I just wonder why he would want to come here for that when he could go into a first team elsewhere.

2 of the worst players ever to pull on a Town shirt were loanees from Man Utd : Clegg and Simpson. And then you've got the worst player in our current squad, Martin, also one of their rejects. I doubt this guy will be any better. Lunacy.

I think as its a loan its so easy to miss the point. Anyone brought in at this point is to help the team stay in the division. Even if he comes in and only plays a couple of games but helps us win couple of games and we end up staying up then it would have been worthwhile having him here. We've got 12 games or whatever to stay up, whats happened before is a write off, we cannot get much structure at all to the season so we just need to get a squad capable of staying in the divison and if Mick think we need another body so be it, whoever's in the squad, loan or permanent has to pull togther and give everything they have to keep the team in the division, we're in to much of a precarious position to start going on about loan signings now, we need him to come in make an impact and help us in a dogfight.

If it was a winger, I would have got excited. But a CB or DM? Nah.

I really can't see what this lad can add when we're in this scrap. Surely it must be just to have a look at him, with a view to a permanent move.

Cover for smith when he goes on international duty, I guess, unless as what others have said it's with a view to a permanent deal! Not sure where that leaves mings though, perhaps they will be letting him go.

So he played for Coventry when they rubbish at the start of the season, then he got left out and Coventry improved. Not all down to Brown, but let's face it he couldn't get back into a league 2 team.
Doesn't that tell you something?

And he probably only got signed at Man Utd because he was Wes Brown's brother and people (obviously still) hope he is just as good

we have a decent defence now but struggle to score - 1 goal in 3 games, so this is surprising. Assume it's no cost to us or what is the point.

Seems a bit of an odd signing.
We seem to have enough at the back right now. Chambers, Smith, Mings, Kisnorbo.
Is it cover in case Stearman gets injured?
He hasn't come here not to play- so I just don't get it.
A highly creative midfielder or a winger- yes.
But a new defender. Are we going for a different system away from home? (5, 4, 1?).
Don't get the planning with this one, but we aren't at the club day in/day out. Maybe there is something going on that none of us can see....

Have to agree with a lot of people on here, didn't see this one coming and don't fully understand it either. Is N'Daw on a recall notice? No way in a million years this is a replacement for Chambers or Smith and with Kisnorbo on the bench is he with view to being permanent!?

Reece Brown is a tall and very powerful central defender, who can also play at full-back and in midfield. Seems a fair addition to the squad

incase of smiths international duty the all we do is

cresswell chambers stearman hewitt

so there really is no need for this guy!

If this happens, I'm backing the manager, as he seems to be better at doing the job tban any of us would be. Also, the young Danny Simpson was not one of the worst players to pull on a blue shirt! Though Clegg was.
