Edwards Joins Millwall
Thursday, 27th Mar 2014 16:32

Town skipper Carlos Edwards has joined Millwall on loan until May 3rd, the final day of the Championship season.

The 35-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, has made only 11 starts and seven sub appearances for the Blues this season, scoring once.

The Trinidad and Tobago international told the club site: “It’s important for me at this stage of my career to be playing football week in, week out.

“When I heard Millwall were keen to take me, I jumped at the chance to go there and play games.

“I wish Ipswich well and I hope when I come back to the club at the end of the season that I will be available for the play-offs!”

Manager Mick McCarthy added: “He wants to play games but he’s not done that here lately.

“We have other lads in front of him, so it’s an opportunity for Carlos to go out and play some first-team football and we wish him well.”

Edwards is expected to make his debut for the relegation-threatened Lions when they take on Blackburn Rovers at the Den on Saturday.

No further deals in or out are expected before today's 5pm emergency loan deadline. Existing deals, such as Jonny Williams's loan from Crystal Palace, can still be extended after today for up to a maximum of 93 days.

Good move for Carlos, give him some playing time and put himself in the shop window.

Good luck Carlos. Been a superb servant for the club but I imagine he's played his last game for us.

Hope there's a recall clause, we haven't got the biggest squad as it is...

He'll do a job for them...for a year or so he was the only quality player when it came to passing and crossing in the wilderness years under RK/PJ just not a proper right back.

All the best Carlos, great servant for ITFC, nice to see that someone of his age still wants to go and play. Top pro do hope we can see him one more time in a Town shirt, sure he could do job as well as Anderson, Hunt or Tabb.

Shame, not that he'd play but I was hoping he'd finish his career here, been a fantastic servant to ITFC.

Bring him on for the last 5 minutes of extra time in the play off final for him to score the winning goal. Let him go down in history as an Ipswich legend.

Hope he does well ,always gave his best and so often played out of position. Wont forget his thunderbolt vs Birmingham last season.

Best of luck to him. He hasn't really had much of a look-in this season, though in a way it would be a shame to see him moved on. Not many of the players from that era left at the club now, such has been the turnover - though don't get me wrong, a lot of that has been justified.

As much as it pains me to see such a loyal servant in a Millwall shirt, it is clearly what he needs so understand why it must be done. Good luck Carlos, and look forward to your return.

Carlos, Keanes best signing by a mile. I would love to see him as part of the backroom staff, he's always had such a great attitude and I think could offer alot to the academy players. Top bloke and if he's not at PR next year then I wish him well. He would do a terrific job at say Colchester

Top servant for Town. Loyal and gives his best each and every time. Best of luck Carlos where ever you end up.

> Carlos, Keanes best signing by a mile.

That may be true, although at £4M in that joint deal with Leadbitter he was hardly cheap. It's a shame he was wasted at right back in some of his time here. A good player though and I wish him all the best.

Mark, he played far better at right back than on the wing for us. Player of the season year before last.

Can't blame him, public transport is much better around those parts.

Jokes aside, wish him well. Great guy and top pro.

Interesting move with Millwall having games against Forrest and Wigan in the next few weeks. Go get em Carlos.

@garv - yeah strange, defensively he wasn't that good, but getting forward and creative play was a big plus, god knows where we would have been without that element in his game back in 'those days'. All the best Carlos!

Mick will want to bring in one or two new players in he summer. In order to do that one or two will have to leave. What we save on Edwards wages should comfortably cover that of a new arrival.

I wish Carlos well though. Good move for him and Ipswich. Best wishes Carlos.

Ive felt really sorry for Carlos this season, great pro, 3rd best player last year behind Smith and Cressy.
For some reason Mick hasnt fancied him this season even tho the likes of Anderson, Green etc havent produced anything like Carlos can down the right hand side.
I knew the writing was on the wall for him when he played great against Blackburn, scored in a 3-1 win and got dropped 4 days later.
Good luck Carlos you were a great servant and thanks for the late winners against Derby and Bolton last season

I wish Carlos all the best at Millwall, but I seem at odds with most of the post on here.
I think he under-achieved here as a winger, was a very bad selection as Captain and is far too laid back to be a part of a MM and TC team.

Their next 3 games are Blackburn (H), Forest (A) and Wigan (A). If he helps stop our rivals picking up points, then that's great. Team player our Carlos ;-)
