Murphy "Top of Cardiff Wish List"
Wednesday, 3rd Jun 2015 10:19

Welsh reports continue to link Cardiff City with a summer move for Town’s 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy.

Claims that Bluebirds boss Russell Slade is keen to sign Murphy first surfaced a week ago and now WalesOnline reports that the Irish international is top of the Cardiff manager’s close season wish list as he looks to take the Welsh club back into the Premier League at the second attempt, having finished 11th in 2014/15.

Slade is said to have been given owner Vincent Tan’s backing to move for Murphy, who some sources elsewhere claim is also interesting Fulham, with Cardiff believing an offer of £4 million might be enough to tempt Town into parting with the former Waterford, Sunderland and Celtic striker.

However, Murphy has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of leaving Town as he and his family are settled in Suffolk, while manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have said they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer.

Murphy, who is currently away with the Ireland squad, signed a new contract with Town last July, which currently has another year left to run, while the club have an option to extend it for a further season.

media hype?

he aint going no where, the story is no different from the last 'Cardiff speculation' and it will be the same in a weeks time...

just something to keep us on our toes, and then a bit of stick thrown toward cardiff's direction.

im itching to come on TWTD to see ''New Town Signing Unveiled''

If it goes up to £5 then must be seriously considered I am afraid.

These funds, assuming they could be used, could by 2 or 3 quality younger players from the lower divisions, remember David Lowe, David Johnson----even Marcus Stewart.

Have to say, if we were offered a flat £4m for Murphy (no add ons for appearances, goals or suchlike) we should take it. Really can't see him scoring 27 goals again next season - and £4m could buy us a decent long-term replacement.

Just a ridiculous scenario.

Even if they do offer silly enough money that temps us, I can't see Murphy wanting to move whatsoever. Cardiff is a long way, geographically, and also a long way down the Championship table.

And I also don't see Murph as the type to move for the money.

Why would he even consider going to Cardiff? Where did they finish in the league last season?

Apart from maybe higher wages, he is settled in Ipswich, he has said he doesn't want to move and Mick has said that no players will be leaving unless there is a really high offer for them.

£3 million! That's nothing like what he is worth even at his age. 27 goals in one season would put him up to at least £8 million.

How does anyone know except Mr Murphy..

If it was a premier league team then you could perhaps understand it, but Cardiff really had a poor season last season. 4 million is ridiculous, bearing in mind he was the leagues top scorer last season. If it's to a rival it's gonna have to be a bigger fee than that!!!

Why??? Why would he go there? Cardiff are a smaller club, finished much lower than us in the table, he is settled here with his family, Cardiff are a ridiculously unstable, I'd be surprised if Slade is still there at the end of next season and Vincent Tan looks like some sort of Bond villain.

Losing a 27 goal-per-season striker for just £4 million would be, regardless of his age, a massive setback for us. I don't understand how anyone would see that sum as acceptable.

That said, Cardiff would be a sideways step at best, so lets hope he is not lured by Tan's millions.

Four million sounds tempting...very tempting. But whats four million compared to two seasons at least in the Premier League which if, Murphy has another brilliant season, is what his goals may well offer us.

On purely footballing terms, it is a no brainer, he should stay with us. Perhaps they will offer him a great package that he finds to hard to turn down at this stage of his carer. Hope he stays.

I nearly agree Superfrans. Murphy was worth more than just the 27 goals for his all round hustle. But I expect him to score 15-20 next season given previous season's form. £5m for me. Plus an extra £1m as we don't need to sell.

I've heard Lionel Messi is top of our wish list. Both transfers are both as likely!

If Danny Ings is expected to cost £5m then £4m for DM would be a reasonable price.
He did have a great season last time round though and replacing him would be a problem.
Unfortunately I can't see us getting Ings to fill his role.

If we could get 4 Mil take it. Period. Sorinson (gk ) available on free that would be good signing unlikely but you never know

£4m is a very good price if this is true, I'm afraid you're all dreaming if you think he'd command a larger fee. He's had a great season but is certainly very replaceable at that price. At his age he'd probably go for it if Cardiff made the offer as it would be his last chance at a big pay cheque and we just can't compete with their millions.

At his age I could only see Murphy moving to a PL club. Cardiff may give him a lot of money, but it would be a huge risk considering the instability they've been through. Moving to them could actually harm his chances of playing in the Premier League.

Not too worried about this link.

This seems unlikely to happen! i don't think Murph will score as many next season, so for say 6 million, Cardiff can have him. But he does a lot more than scoring goals eg defends and play on the left or right if required. Would miss him so I don't think he will go!

At 31, it's probably his last time for a big signing on fee, increase in wages.

My reading of the article where he came out and said " Ipswich need better players next season " is from a man very much considering a move.

He has one year left to run on his contract. I honestly feel he will be off this summer.

For what it's worth, I actually don't mind - so long as we get a good fee. At 31 and with the season of his life behind him, is he likely to do that again? Of course not. Is he likely to score 15 plus again even ( he only has once! ) ?! Debateable.

If Murphy goes, we'll lose Bishop and Mings in a flash.

Why would two youngsters (or any of the current squad for that matter) want to stay at a club that's letting its best players leave without a suitable replacement (highly unlikely to find another 15 goal a season replacement for the money we'll spend).

I'm sure the club will respond with an improved contract for Murphy and rightfully so.

Cannot let him go. Cannot be allowed to happen.

Jimmy86 added 11:33 - Jun 3
Currie10 wouldn't sat he is considering a move and if anything the comments he made about the club needing better players, when he is the subject of interest himself from other clubs could give Evans Et Al a nudge to sign better players.

Cardiff are a bigger club than us. They may be run like a panto, but they have the backing of a richer (if more eccentric) man, a new stadium and a city of a third of a million people with a further half million in easy commute. murph has to think of his pension. We have a better manager, but little sign of financial backing any more. The real question is at what price will ME sell if at all? If they do decide to sell I think Murph will go.
Those that say we're a bigger club are living in the past.
