Town Linked With Move for Blackpool Midfielder
Tuesday, 6th Dec 2016 11:35

Town will reportedly make a move for Blackpool central midfielder Brad Potts during the January transfer window.

"According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are set to make a £500,000 offer for the 22-year-old, who is being eyed by a number of Championship clubs.

The League Two Seasiders are said to be loath to sell their playmaker, having signed him at the end of his contract at Carlisle in the summer of 2015 when the Cumbrians received a reported £250,000 in compensation, but could be tempted if they were to be offered the chance to double their money.

In the summer Blackpool were reported to have turned down an offer from League One leaders Scunthorpe.

The former England U19 international’s contract at Bloomfield Road runs to the end of this season but includes an option for a further year.

Potts, who is 6ft 2in tall, was born in Hexham and came through the youth ranks at Carlisle, breaking into their first-team at the start of the 2012/13 season when he featured in their Capital One Cup defeat of the Blues at Brunton Park.

Having made 103 starts and 15 sub appearances in three years for the Cumbrians, scoring 10 goals, Potts, who can also play at right midfield and at right-back, has now made 69 starts and played one game from the bench for the Tangerines, scoring 14 times, including eight this season.

While a striker to replace Daryl Murphy is top of Town's January wish-list, manager Mick McCarthy may well also look to add strength to other areas of his squad with goals from central midfield once again having been in short supply this season.

Decent goal return this season, still young as well. Could be a very good signing on the cheap

Depends if McCarthy is still at club?

McCarthy will still be at the club

Know nothing about Potts- he looks like a unit- young, relatively cheap - lowish fee and wages- fits the bill
Able to play right back as well could make him a useful addition.

We desperately need a midfield "general" to replace the ineffective Skuse.

Not words you often see used with regards our central midfield 'making a move' of any kind...

I don't know anything of him to be honest, but from the summary above, sounds like could be a good target.

Not gonna get ahead of "different class Dougie" though, is he?

MICK OUT!

Sweeten the deal for them and include Bru. Failing that Bishop on loan.

How about a swap for Douglas, Skuse, Chambers and Berra...oh they can have the Dinosaur too

Sounds a decent young lad. Just a shame that Skuse has to play every game regardless of form and he's not 35 years old and/or Irish.

Seems a capable player but I said the same about Jordan Spence and we never ended up signing him.

So other championship sides are also looking at him. Not coming here then.

Lets be honest ,:we need more players like webster and ward . This lad and a couple of strikers are the absolute minimum

A playmaker or a clogger? I wager the latter.

A goal every 10.3 games then in L2?

Never heard of him. Why is he wearin one glove?

With that hairstyle he would have a fight with Luke Hyam for the changing room mirror.

Bluebell - a tribute to Michael Jackson, maybe?

Yes he can play right back haha!!
Could be worth signing if he's any good for championship level.

Well it's all gone to Pot (boom boom!) under Mick this season so why not see if this young gun Potts get him out of the s**t pot. We're hardly spoilt for choice in midfield and anybody that can inject some goal threat should be welcomed with open arms! Whether he can step up a level who knows, but he'd have to be pretty awful to be any worse than some of our other options! Sounds worth a punt (even if I've never even seen him play) and 500k isn't exactly bank breaking in the modern game. Maybe he could lend Skuse a spare pair of shooting boots if he joins. I've known goalkeepers to score as many (or more!) goals in a season than Skuse!

Just can't see this happening as other clubs have more money and more drawing power. Even if it did then the 22 year old creative midfielder would end up as a 23 year old holding midfielder. I truly hate being negative but I just can't see any positive things happening for our club until the team are given the freedom to play to their strengths and not the boring, rigid, defend at all costs systems that we adopt every game regardless of who the opposition are.

To be fair Paul bloody Potts would be an improvement!

Would be a good signing if we can get him over the line as current central mids have gone really stale and need to be moved on

Good to be looking at younger players. Name 1 youngster that is in the team and thriving under MM? Or......name 1 youngster who can oust an under performing senior player and hold that place under MM?
