Diagouraga Leaves Town
Wednesday, 3rd May 2017 11:26

Loan midfielder Toumani Diagouraga has revealed he has departed Portman Road due to the groin injury which ruled him out of Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Diagouraga, 29, joined the Blues from Leeds, for whom he hadn’t featured since August, on a half-season loan in January and went on to make 10 starts and two sub appearances without scoring.

The Parisian said at Saturday's Player Awards Evening that he would be interested in joining the Blues on a permanent basis in the summer. He has another year left on his Leeds contract but has said he will have to find a new club in the close season.

Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy said he would speak to loan players such as Diagouraga and Emyr Huws about their futures after the final game of the season.

Thanks and good luck! Never seemed to do enough in the time I saw him, but heard good reports from the games I missed.

Seemed a very nice man after the Fulham game though.

Decent enough, but probably not the sort of player to take us forward next season.

I'm not at all sorry about that. He isn't really what we need.

With Cole Skuse (who will still be here next season) along with Ward, Hyam, Bishop, Bru, Dozzell and hopefully Huws we will be fine.

A couple of good wingers are needed I would say.

Anyone taking bets that come late July when we have not invested and he still has no Club, that we bring him back in ? We have had worse in our midfield and if fit does bring a physical dimension which (without Hyam) we have definitely missed.

Bluebell - A couple of good, permanent wingers always seem to be on our wish list.

What we need is a dominant holding defensive midfielder who actually protects the back four and can take control of games this will allow the likes of Huws if here , Bishop , Dozzell , Ward to play their natural game .
Skuse is not the answer

Whoever's managing our club during the summer needs to make Huws the priority signing & also bring in a decent central midfielder to play alongside him - not convinced that Diagourara is good enough though.

We've rapidly been going backwards with Skuse,Douglas,Bru,Coke etc for far too long..personally i'd get them all off the pay roll and bring in some much needed new energy to the midfield.

I think our 'wish list' for types new players has been pretty much the same for about 10 years now...

Like a lot of our central midfielders at the moment he is good enough to compete in most Championship games but lacks that extra bit of quality to be dominant against top six teams on a continuous basis.
Personally I think that Bru, Skuse and Hyam also fall into this bracket. If the club are serious about rebuilding then those players need to be moved on quickly to free up wages.

Skuse won't be going anywhere.

Is Hyam going to play next season? That lad needs to drink some more milk.

We have been told the summer will see significant rebuilding. It's desperately required.

Sadly, 'Dave' has been part of an underachieving team/squad. If we are serious of improving then we need better. He's actually been better than I thought, but we need a goal threat in midfield. He's average.

I wish him well. But don't expect to see him back at PR.

On this one .....I tend to disagree with most of my fellow Town fans posts.
I thought that when Scuse was injured & went off after 21 mins (against Reading) and for the subsequent next 2/3 games - the combination of Diagoagoura , Huws & Grant together were really excellent & very positive midfield unit together.
I personally would take a fully fit Diagagoura over Scuse (with Scuse being the option on the bench).

Decent enough player but doesn't really improve us

I thought Diagouraga did well early on, but was not able to earn a place in the first team so makes sense to return him. Lawrence we can't afford, Williams is hardly ever fit to play, so that just leaves Huws (will we afford his fee and wages?) and Samuel (will Reading let him go and has he shown enough in his brief appearances anyway?). The loan system has not really provided for us well this season for the money we paid out I would suggest, as the loan players depart leaving us 16th in the table, 22 points short of the play-offs with a 34 worse goal difference.

Only saw him a couple of times, but played more forward passes in the Villa game than I think Skuse/Douglas did most of the season. Much rather have him than any of those 2.

We can afford Lawrence and better if we are going to be serious about promotion next season..

Bluebell our midfield ia shyte.
Huws and ward apart they aint good enough.

My view is Skuse is now not good enough, too old, it happens. Huws could be good but also proved to me he could be bad, non existent. That is why Warnock doesn't want him. In my opinion none of our midfield (Ward maybe, but not sure) who are ours are good enough and the system MM plays emphasis is placed on defending midfielders anyhow. Please don't continue with that negative man in charge. Injection of pace and passing and movement with intent next season please and the players who are capable of doing it.

Promising start that wasn't built upon. A fit Luke Hyam would be a better option.

I would take him over Skuse any day of the week. Anyone want to bet that we don't get Huws, either? If he costs us a fee, then ME will not be opening up his wallet.

It pains and embarrasses me to say it, but if Moore is the type of player we are only capable of bringing in, then we are in serious trouble.

Thanks Toums for your efforts, but like others have said, if we are serious about going up, these sort of players shouldn't be the ones we are getting, unless they replace the like of Coke for mixing it up and adding depth. Bru isn't the same player he used to be sadly, which is upsetting because he looked a proper footballer in his early days.

I do feel Hyam's aggression has been missed, but with Ward, Dozzell, Bish (if he can stay fit), Huws (if we sign him), a goalscoring midfielder wouldn't be a bad thing!

There are several players who have been here quite a long while and have never been able to last any more than a couple of games before being injured again, paying these players with no consistent playing time is why there is no money for new players.Getting rid of these players would release cash to get in some new faces who could have a good pedigree of remaining fit.
