Keane: Priskin is Going Nowhere
Keane: Priskin is Going Nowhere
Saturday, 30th Jan 2010 05:01

Boss Roy Keane says striker Tamás Priskin will not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes on Monday. QPR have been linked with the 23-year-old and the Town manager says a number of clubs have contacted him regarding the Hungarian international's availability.

But Keane has confirmed that he has no intention of letting the summer signing from Watford leave: “Tamás is going nowhere. He’s staying at the football club. I think the boy deserves a chance, I think the boy’s a talented player.

“We’re obviously hoping for a bit more from him but, like I said when we signed him, some players take longer than others to settle in.”

The Blues boss says the one-time loanee with today’s opponents Preston needs to be given time by everyone connected with the club: “I think our fans have been very, very patient with the team so far and maybe we all need to be a little bit more patient with Tamás. I think he’s a talented boy and it’s up to the coaches and myself to get a bit more out of him.

“He’s missed out on a few squads, it’s not as if he’s had many minutes on the pitch. I know he came on not long ago and the fans were a bit [negative], although our fans have been very good, but sometimes you have to be patient with certain players and I think we all have to be like that with Tamás.”

Keane says the striker, who scored 14 goals for the Hornets last season, will get more of a chance to prove himself in the weeks to come: “People are on about him being a goalscorer. Our top goalscorer has six goals and Tamás has got two and he’s probably played the least minutes of all the strikers.

“I think the boy deserves more of an opportunity and he’s going to get that over the next few months with the games we have and with Jon Walters being injured, and we also have to make a decision with Stern.”

Although Priskin has missed one or two chances during his time with the Blues, including one late on against West Brom on Tuesday, Keane is pleased that he’s getting himself in the right areas to get those opportunities: “He’s had chances, some strikers never get a chance. Some strikers spend half the time standing on the wing. You want strikers in the box.

“I think Tamás needs a run of games. It’s hard when you come on as sub, some lads have it, some lads don’t.

“His attitude has never been a problem, he’s a decent kid, a quiet lad. Tamás will get the chance and he’ll score goals for us, but we all have to be a bit more patient. He’s a young lad, he’s still learning his trade.

“We’ve had plenty of enquiries for him but I made the decision that he’s going to stay with us. Tamás is staying, Tamás is going to be part of our squad, definitely.”

Priskin has started nine games and made nine sub appearances since joining the Blues for £1.7 million in the summer, scoring two goals.

I think the club's overall attitude at the moment is that if we just keep going as we have been going then we won't get relegated; playoffs and promotion are a ridiculous long shot. So best to save money now, keep the powder dry, wait for the more productive summer window. If anyone comes in with an offer for a player that is acceptable, then so be it; if a loan or two can be done, terrific. But don't expect earthquakes.

Arc, I think you're right. Also, there is no point bailing Priskin out. He showed against WBA that he does have quality, but obviously needs to settle - and WBA suggested he has started to do that. Arguably he would thrive more at a higher level, when things are a little less frenetic.
But sending him out on loan would be pointless. How will he settle into the area and team by going off somewhere else?
He'll come good.

good call on Prisken, think Keane has it spot on and fans need to get off his back to help him push on. Look at Donkey Delaney - from foe to friend in a couple of games :-)

He may come good he may not. So far he hasn't done much but as it is pointed out he is only young and learning his trade. Against WBA he came on and did a decent job. My only problem with his performance was the lack of closing down leading up to their goal but there were other players that maybe could have also defende better.

He has done well at a few games (Sheff United, Barnsley and Reading away) but it has been few and far between sadly and there have been performances suggesting he lacks commitment. In addition, he worryingly has missed a few decent chances at important times in games (Derby, , Barnsley, Reading, WBA). Fingers crossed though for him.

I think his 'chance' against WBA shows what a good player he is. He did well to get to the ball and, once he had, he got a good shot away that was well saved. He made it almost out of nothing, it would have been a very good goal. If Pablo had done that, everyone would be worshipping his immense skill, but since its Priskin everyone uses it as an excuse to get at him. He played very well againg Brom and in the FA cup when he came on, he put himself about a bit, worked hard, showed flashes of quality. I think he could be the striker we need, so give him time.

the lad has obvious natural talent, but needs to up his work effort levels - something Pablo should've done years ago also.....

keep Tamas and give him a run of games for confidence, like most strikers if he gets one goal he'll get a string of them - just ask Jon Stead.......

hey its great to hear some positive comments about Prisken on here - just need to translate that to the terraces (shows how long i have been going since the days of the terrace and milk crates to see from Churchmans!!).... the player looks to lack confidence - chearing and believing in him like Keane seems to can only help??? comment about loaning him out, trouble is if he does as Keane suggests take time to settle, sure this will unsettle him even more - didnt he take half a season to get going at Watford then scored a hatfull?

I'm not sure Priskin had the best of starts at Ipswich as he wasn't selected right away and then the team had that terrible run. He is a young lad from the far side of Europe originally, so it would be nice to give him a run and see if we can build his confidence up and start scoring goals. It seems we don't have a decent new striker coming in, so I would rather Tamas Priskin be given a run than Stern John to be honest.

Priskin has skill and quaality, but his finishing / work rate has been poor. Probably worth a game or two in the first team - afterall he hasn't started many has he?

bennyblue...what?

Priskin is an Ipswich player and as such he deserves OUR support, someone else has said he may or may not make it, well, i guarantee with everyone on his back, he will not make it, so give him some encouragement.
Keane is an Irishman, who has played for Forest, Manyoo, and Celtic, he is still more of an Ipswich "fan" than some of our own so called supporters.
He gets behind his men and gives them encouragement, in fact if they are "up for it" he SUPPORTS them.
Try it, you never know you might quite like being a supporter and not a moaner

If Tamas "isnt going anywhere", Roy , then FFS PLAY HIM so he can get some confidence up and gel with the likes of Stead or Pablo!!

Good Decision RK. This statement alone will be a boost for Priskin. Now give him a proper run of matches......
Priskin/WBA match showed us a glimpse - lets get behind the lad!
Negative moaners - type T A M A S P R I S K I N into YouTube and you might start to understand.

Am I the only one who's noticed an alarming lack of patience from some Town fans this season? Not long ago (have we already forgotten just how skint the club was a few seasons back?), Priskin is the type of talented young player with bags of potential that we all would have got behind, and been grateful and delighted to have at the club.

Priskin's only had 9 starts for the club, and some "fans" on this board seem (for months now) to be taking a perverse pleasure in writing him off. How about showing the lad a bit of encouragement from the stands (if the negative attitude from the fans towards Tamas has come through to RK, you can bet it has to the lad himself) and I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time before we're rewarded with the form Tamas showed in the 2nd half of last season...

Personally, I'm happy with our current strikers and I think all 4 of them look ready to kick on now for the rest of the season. I'd like to see us starting matches with Stead and Priskin - giving Priskin more time on the pitch, he could hopefully get a few more chances (like the one he carved out for himself against the Baggies), and I'd back him to stick one away :^D

I'd prefer to see Wickham (because of his age) and Pablo (who's been scoring his goals coming off the bench anyway) being our striker subs at the moment.

Thought the atmosphere against WBA was poor. Get behind Priskin and the team. Never mind, ITFC Sweden will show you how on Feb. 6

In a few weeks' time, the rose-tinted-specs views of most on here will leave them embarrassed. We will never achieve promotion under Keane (though relegation remains a distinct possibility ) and Priskin is totally unsuited to the English game and will need to go back to the Continent to have any success at all. Get rid of both.
