Baptiste to Return in Pre-Season
Baptiste to Return in Pre-Season
Tuesday, 4th May 2010 11:26

Boss Roy Keane says Trinidadian trialist Kerry Baptiste could return for a second Town trial in pre-season. The 28-year-old frontman or right winger, who currently plays for Joe Public in his home country, spent a week with the Blues in March.

Keane said: “The boy will come back because he did well, very well, he impressed us all.

“We weren’t exactly flying at the time [he came over] and when you’re signing players you have to give them a chance. But he’ll be back, maybe over the summer.”

Baptiste says he has also been offered a trial by MLS side Toronto FC: “Yes, I have been invited to go up to Toronto.

“They have expressed an interest having me train at the club and possibly they can offer me a deal, but everything will happen after the CFU Club Championship [Caribbean equivalent of the Champions League] because right now Joe Public is my first preference.

“At the end of the day, even though I would like to benefit from playing overseas, Joe Public is responsible for where I am right now and I played some of the best football of my career as a member of the Joe Public club. If it means they must benefit from any deal that I sign outside, then I’m happy about that.”

An international team-mate of Carlos Edwards and former loanee Stern John with 43 caps and eight goals for Trinidad, Baptiste was previously with San Juan Jabloteh and the North East Stars, also in his home country. He is the all-time top scorer in the TT Pro League, Trinidad and Tobago's top division, having scored 102 goals, 48 of them last season.

Meanwhile, released full-back David Wright has been linked with a return to former loan club Norwich City, although apparently purely on the basis that he is keen to remain living in East Anglia. The ex-Wigan and Crewe man was previously at Carrow Road in 2005.

Another devan yeo ? Hope not !

Do you know what , ive so very little confidence in Keane to sign anyone decent !

I want him to succeed but i recon i could buy better players for us than the manager !

It is very hard to judge how good a player Baptiste is due to the level he plays at, as it was for Yao, Healy and B.Murphy. Let's hope he takes his chance and impresses, but he will need to be a lot better than Edwards is and his age is against him.

D.Wright to Norwich would be tragic. The release of this solid professional on a free transfer underlines for me the mismanagement of Ipswich Town FC at the moment.

Come on If he did not impress that well the first time, then is a second trial really going to change anything.

If D.Wright goes to the scum then I guess this 'how much the club means to him.' is just BS. Even Naylor turned down a move to Norwich because he couldn't bring himself to play for them. Que the 'I don't blame him after the way we treated him.' BS

Only if he is coming as a striker: we really do not need another right-sided midfielder.

What's the craic with Yao? I think he only signed to this summer and we've paid 'fees' to countless clubs to get him here...
I am still annoyed D Wright is not being offered new terms, but if he wants to stay in the area, his options may extend to London clubs too presumably? Bets on he gets a goal against us next season...

FFS - what a load of rubbish people write on here

Yao was a young kid with obviously a fair bit of talent but not the aptitude to use it - we gave him a try and it didn't work - doesn't make Keane a poor manager (we did the same with O'Conner and that seems to have worked out for us)

Keane doesn't sign anyone decent eh ? So Leadbitter, O'Conner, Delaney and D Murphy have all been crap have they ?

could someone advise me as to the current 'mis-management' that is going on at Portman Road at the moment because I am not aware of it - it seems to seems from the fact that we have let an average Championship RB, who was on decent money, leave the club

He could be another shumliskoski or another Muhren. We will just have to see

..I think you'll find that when said "average championship right back" wasn't involved in our "team" this season we ended up leaking quite a few goals..every time.

..the mis-management "jibes" might be down to the fact that our manager cannot seem to communicate with anyone other than steve bruce...not a situation which is really helpful to our club if you ask me.

I must say that I feel that Yorkshire is also talking rubbish,if RK is so good why have we finished in our lowest position since 1957!This is 6 places lower than last year.Dont know if he/she watched match on Sunday but all goals came down our RH side where David Wright would have played.

He did watch the match - not sure you can hang much on an end of season game and for what it is worth I don't think that David Wright wouldve made any difference - in fact I thought Peters was our best player

It has been a crap season and we have finished low down in the table (although not as low as some were suggesting we would at Christmas). RK has made some mistakes and they players as a whole have let us down but I do not see where we have been mismanaged and I am also not sure how much losing David Wright will effect us in the long run

It is not difficult to back up a statement that the club has been mismanaged: bad buys, bad sales, poor tactics, quotes to the media about players and other managers etc...all adding up to a league finish of 15th after spending millions of pounds.

As for Leadbitter, O'Connor, Delaney and D Murphy...Leadbitter has not shown me he is a £3M player, O'Connor looks promising and a good signing, Delaney is a good centre back (but was signed as a left-back and only played centre-back in an injury crisis) and loanee D.Murphy started well but then faded badly. I do not agree these players represent value for the £8M-odd spent + wages.

David you will be missed. I support RK but I also would like to have seen DW have one more season. Surely there was at least space for him on the bench? I thought so.

Remind me how many of these 'jobbing amateur' forays have been successful .... that includes dragging failed players back from obscure League of Ireland clubs.

Vemund Brekke Skard ; George O'Callaghan ; Colin Healy ; Devann Yao.
All rubbish.

Yorkshire - excellent post. I would add Colback and Begovic to that list of good signings. Some people just want Roy to fail. It's a real shame.

"Lowest league position since 1957"?
No, the last time we finished this low was..... 2006.
When we also finished 15th.

As for Skaard, O'Callaghan, Healy, Yao- how much did it cost us to take a chance on these players? Sometimes they come off, sometimes then dont. I would say O'Connor represents one that came off, given that he was just about to sign for a League of Ireland side before we took a chance.

so it is the lowest league position since 1957 it doesnt matter if we matched it 10 times its still the lowest since 57 man you number twisting figure fiddling people you never stop twisting the truth do you ? as for those players i dont know how much it cost but i guess i could build a couple of house and still have plenty of change

kirbs added 08:42 - May 5
it dosent matter if its our worst league position since 1957 or not, the fact is the man has spent £8 million in one season and we have finished 6 places worst then magilton's so called 'bad team' last seasonk, tells me everything i need to know.

I'd like us to take another look at this guy. Wouldn't have been much point signing him after his last trial because it was outside the transfer window and he couldn't have played. Would cost very little and could potentially offer something. He seems to know where the back of the net is at least!
