Nosworthy Held Talks With Trio While Evans Again Linked
Nosworthy Held Talks With Trio While Evans Again Linked
Saturday, 4th Jun 2011 23:50

Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy is understood to have held talks with Town, Reading and Crystal Palace, while Sheffield United striker Ched Evans is again linked with the Blues as well as Cardiff City, but with Middlesbrough said to be the favourites for his signature.

Nosworthy, who spent the last season and a half playing alongside Evans on loan at Bramall Lane, was previously mentioned in connection with Town three weeks ago and may have been the player manager Paul Jewell was due to speak to just over a week ago.

The 30-year-old, targeted by his former boss Roy Keane during his time at Portman Road, still has a season remaining on his contract but the Black Cats will allow the former Gillingham full-back or centre-half to leave on a free transfer.

Evans, 22, was linked with the Blues a month ago having been another player who interested Town during Roy Keane’s time in charge.

Tony Mowbray’s Middlesbrough are reportedly the favourites to land the £1.2 million-priced Welsh international frontman, who is also believed to be on Cardiff’s hitlist.

Elsewhere, Watford are reported to have accepted an increased £3.5 million bid from Swansea for striker Danny Graham, who had previously been linked with the Blues.

So 2 players who were with a relegated club! Seriously, think both would help. However am i the only one who now thinks every time we and another club are linked with a player, they are more likely to join the other club! Hard times, wasn't long ago that players would jump at joining Ipswich.

No thanks to either....!
What's Danni Shittu doing nowaday's...? I reckon he's the solid CB we should aim for - and as for Ched Evans - when did he last score...?!

Not convinced either will take us to the next level. United fans seem to think nosworthy can put in the odd clanger at cb. Maybe he's being lined up for right back? Evans maybe ok, had great potential before going to united maybe it was the wrong club for him. He's still really young though so could still come good. Would still want a sharp, cox or Ebanks Blake but then I'm greedy!

Nice to know if true we have tried to get players in early! But in my view would much rather say chopra/sharp/nugent instead of evans and would prefer st ledger to nosworthy but then anyone can be a good signing if they play good. I trust jewell if he thinks these players are what we need then I'll trust him he works with the team everyday he must have some idea of what we need. In jewell I trust

When did Ched Evans last score?

February 22nd. And eight other times in 36 appearances this season. That's 20% of the team's entire goal total for the season. In a poor team. He was their top scorer, by some margin.

I think i'd rather we signed younger players from league 1 or 2.
Nosworthy would be a good back up centre back, but I think we need two 1st choice centre backs first. All we have is Delaney and Smith, and without Macauley alongside, neither would be on my team sheet.

PJ has a busy summer on his hands.
I think we need a goalie, a right back, a left back, 2 centre backs, a dominant central midfielder, a creative central midfielder, a right winger, a left winger, and at least 2 centre forwards.
A whole team then! But can we afford this?
At the moment with the players we have left, I'd accept Edwards at right back, O'Connor at left back, Leadbitter in central midfielder, Carson on a wing, and Wickham up front, and thats all.
Come on PJ, cheer us up a bit!

Its a great shame this hugely expensive business of buying players has to be done in front of the world. All selling clubs are guilty of it, alerting the whole football circus to a player in order to raise his price and it appears the contracts eventually signed are not worth a traf. I guess this is why buying clubs expect such immediate success from a player, which must inevitably put huge pressure onto them. But there, its all become part of the game, like their inflated wage packets ! Roll on our first signing, even if its only a tea-lady !

very worried

In PJ I dont trust

Keane was rubbish yet all PJ targets seem to be Keanes ex targets and look at some of the average players he brought

Are well Scotland and Priskin front line

O no sorry we only play one up front

On top of Clegg's/Evan's failure to do deals financially, I suppose we are not viewed as promotion candidates. Why would we be when under Keane we flirted with relegation in the last two seasons, and when under Jewell a large part of our improvement was due to loanee Bullard who has now left (not to mention captain Norris leaving as well as McAuley). We are 29/1 to win the Championship at Betfair, behind 11 other clubs including Brighton! Unless we make some serious signings I can only see that price drifting.

I should add that I believe in Jewell and think he will do a good job, but if the weeks go on and other clubs sign up all the best players it may start to point to some deeper issues at ITFC that go beyond the manager's control. Let's hope the signings start to happen, even someone from non-league perhaps?!

Nosworthy, ONLY a good signing if playing in his preferred position of right back.

Evans, very good player. Not the first quality striker to struggle at Sheffield United (people forget that Sharp struggled to make an impact there in 2 spells)

I saw Barnsley and Burnley are looking at Craig Dawson on a season's loan from West Brom. He is definitely worth a look

Nosworthy s a good solid centre back, rugged and takes no prisoners which is exactly what this league requires. Ok he s prone to a few errors but most CBs in this division are

Loan players = cardiff city = failure when comes to the crunch. If lose they think ah well will be somewhere else next time so who cares. Got to buy players who want to be Ipswich and on contracts that reflect that. Perhaps we should move the club to an area in the middle of the country to get players to sign!

This is of course all speculation - but hopefully not true as both players are not as good as what we already HAD. Nosworthy is not as good as McAuley and struggled in a team who were relegated. Would have probably been okay a couple of years ago. Evans is perhaps an okay choice, but with other clubs interested, I doubt we have much of a chance.

Neither of them for me. Both garbage. Agree that Morgan is the type of CB (leader) we need, but he's now a player coach at Sheff Utd

If we missed out Nosworthy it is a lucky escape - did you see him for Sheff U at the end of last season - utter rubbish. PJ I worry about your targets now and sounds like desperation. For Gods sake get some young blood in we have enough journeynen as it is.
