Interesting that his name was mentioned before McInnes was looked into.

Joe Garner was his 76th singing as Town boss and aside from a few notable exceptions he's largely signed a crock of sh1t IMO, albeit cheaply.

As per my thread the other day, I'm not sure that's fair

McCarthy has clearly been operating on a restricted budget, and as such has been forced into signing lots of cheap, available squad filler-type players. Unsurprisingly, a lot of these have been fairly rubbish

When spending what you presume is a decent chunk of our budget on players (either fees or wages), his signings have generally been successful, bar a couple of exceptions (Douglas, Stewart etc)

I like a challenge, so here goes:

Gerken (no option really, his only other keeper signing is Bart)

Veseli, Malarczyk, Digby, Fryers

Henshall, Douglas, Coke, Stewart

Nouble, Bajner

Skuse, Berra, McGoldrick, Murphy, Williams, Sears, Bialkowski, Stewart, Fraser, Pitman, AMN, Douglas, Knudsen, Lawrence, Webster, Ward, Garner

his 14/15 squad was built on peanuts and a shoestring. When he gets it right it's great, but I would agree there's been an enormous amount of squad-filling dross in his time here. But that's not entirely his fault...

Sorry, Nouble is just about the worst of the lot. Clearly, you didn't see his abject performance in the L Cup at Crawley. As a striker, he showed that he couldn't hit the proverbial cow's arse with a Bajner.

If there was a possibility for him to go then let him IMO - if a deal can be done. There is no way in the world he is going to get us playing how we would like our side to play. He hasn't done it for 4 and half years, why suddenly over 8 weeks his coaching ability will instantly improve I don't know? I would like someone like Glenn Hoddle as our manager for three reasons. Firstly, I think it will get fans the club have lost interested in Ipswich again. Secondly, he'll coach the players in how he wants the team to play, a passing pressing style. He won't just do that for the first team, it will be encouraged throughout the club. Thirdly, he'll give our young players a chance if good enough and develop them as players.

I really don't believe MM can play any other way than he has done with us, however much money is spent. His ideas and approach are antiquated to the modern game, however Hoddle is prepared to embrace new ideas and would change our club, for the better, from top to bottom.

The funny thing is that many many of those players barely played more than a dozen games. Seems to me that Mick's policy has been punts thanks to his budget.

What do you expect when the majority are cheap punts or complete unknowns

His recruitment here has been excellent on the whole.

Ward, Webster, Mings, Didz, Berra, Chambo, Sears, Bart and Skuse for a combined 2m

Plus loans of Fraser, Lawrence and Huws

so what does that say about his ability to identify a good cheap player? I looks like we have to sign close to 50 players to find one Mings.
