Yeah, just watched that, like you say, depressing - we're all just consumers, aren't we, with so-called 'big-business' just wanting to predict our buying habits, persuade us to spend more on things we don't really want/need, just so they can take a little piece of the transaction for themselves.

Agree that the world is all about money now. I often think about that when the likes of McDonalds open on Boxing Day at 6am meaning some people start their shifts about 5 and must have their Christmas ruined or how the deadline for next day delivery went from 2pm to 4, to 5, to 7, to 9 or 10pm now. So many staff working in crap conditions to try and squeeze those extra few quid out of customers. Have you noticed how all the supermarkets have had chocolates and biscuit selections on offer recently? I bet even that is calculated and they think people will buy them for Christmas, end up eating them and need to buy them again.
The more profits are squeezed from a broke public the more workers have to suffer and work crap hours on crap money to make it possible. People then wonder why someone like Jeremy Corbyn attracts voters. People are fed up of being exploited on crap pay. |  |

I do have to earn money though and unless I can replace my job with a better one i'm stuck. I wasn't necessarily talking about my situation, to their credit my company have significantly increased salaries and committed to rises over the next couple of years in advance. | |

From the finance blogs I follow it seems like salaries in America are mostly excellent with the occasional one incredibly low. Not many seem to be on the equivalent of £25-30k a year but much higher. Is that right? Oh and do you have to get up about 4am to start work on Boxing Day? | |

Some people do. You can justify a lot of things where the majority don't like something by saying some people like it.
I realise there are arguments against my point of view. I've heard them all and I respect them. Dave Ramsey is passionately against a minimum wage for people like retail staff and his argument is convincing but I disagree. I would still disagree if I won the Euromillions on Friday. | |

But of course voting for Jeremy Corbyn will solve nothing. I tend to agree with your sentiment though but unless consumers change habits (they won't), then nothing will change. There is simply no need for McDonald's to be open on Boxing Day in this country is there but they open because they make money from doing so. If people changed the their habits, McDonald's would change theirs.
