Heartwarming as it is, the Huddersfield story is a rarity. Spending a lot has been the way to go up (Newcastle, Bournemouth, Leicester etc) more often than not in the past few years.

....and 3 or 4 Premier League loans.

Still around 3 times our budget.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.

He's right. People rally against the manager because that is the most realistic change we can make but if Evans isn't going to back MM with a decent amount of funds, a man who has earned this trust over 5 years, he isn't going to back the next manager with any extra resources either.

Tim Sherwood would be a good fit for us but I bet a lot of fans would be unhappy with him here. His philosophy seems tailor made for a club where the fans want decent football, put a premium on 'one of our own' and don't have a lot of money to spend.

Truly impaired.

i think they net spent £3m, about the same as us this season? Maybe £1m more depending on whose guess the undisclosed fees you believe, but certainly not three times as much.

Tim Sherwood would only be that only if one were to believe his own publicity. He has done nothing to suggest he could do a good job here, indeed he has had a very short good run of results twice that swiftly faded to rubbishness.

We're probably overachieving in reality aren't we? Top half etc...

We also only spent just over 1m this summer. You can't expect to compete on that type of budget. That's the reality.

Where are you getting 2.5m from? Garner and Waghorn cost us under 1m according to Mick. Huws around 2-300k apparently?

Exactly. As Magilton,Keane and Jewell all did.

i don't think Cardiff have spent a huge amount and Preston were riding high until recently.

i'm not arguing that spending money isn't an advantage, clearly it is, i am arguing that it is not a miracle event to spend a small amount and be successful.

Don't forget they are starting from a lower base, ie the majority of the squad from League One.

But yes, Mr Evans should put in more can't argue with that.

I think everyone can agree Evans needs to invest more.

Sheff Utd - momentum is the main thing in their story, rather than investment. They're not the first to be slingshotted from League One to the upper reaches of the Championship.

If we accept that we're a midtable team, will lose as many as we win, etc, could a new manager get a more aesthetically pleasing style of play out of the current squad yet maintain the status quo?
