Phil - cheeky, but can you pin?? I know a fair few of us are interested in chatting about this as well as ITFC.

To kick start - series predictions?

I am going Australia 2-3 England.

I do agree but Woakes looked much more of a number 7 than Moeen last time out. That 20 off 14 or whatever was not what we needed at all.

It will be interesting to see if any of the players you mention take part in NZ. I think we need right handed batsmen so they all look good in that sense.

The next home Ashes will be interesting. The Aussie team is still young and won't change much but with Stokes back and bowlers who need our conditions, it should be a great series.

Oh we've got some light relief the cricket is back tonight!!!! Looks like Crane is going to make his debut as Woakes is unfit. Ali stays in, but on a Sydney spinning track if he fails to do anything I'd rest Ali from the NZ tour give others a chance.

Alli making it into the team yet again is just ridiculous. He’s been the worst England player I’ve seen in a tour in my life. He’s been absolutely terrible with bat and ball

I won’t be watching. My personal protest.

Sorry bud I'll take my whoosh and wear it with pride!! Loving watching Cooky's innings on replay whilst it rains, very fortunate to know the bloke just to say hello to and chew the cud occasionally...my absolute hero, more runs than Brian Lara. Legend.

Cooky's out - that looked plumb too - surprised the umpire didn't give it.

Over to Root, although I can see us not getting to 200.

Morning all! I've come to the conclusion, England's batting is like Ipswich Town generally they give you a bit of hope then it all just crumbles away with a couple of wickets.

About time Root converts one of these half centuries. Oh no, here's the hope rising to the surface!

And normality returns.

Well, it worked for England then.

Ah, Root. FFS. 233/4 now. All set for England to get 400 and then Smith to match tht on his own again.

Dawad Malan must be England's man of the series?

Very long tail with Curran in at 8.
Can see why Bairstow came in rather than a night watchman though - hard to play a decent innings with the current England tail.

Last 10-15 mins of the day sum the series up, England get into a decent position to push on and get a big score then 2 quick wickets and now we will be lucky to get 280.

Root barely ever fails to make a start - he really does often score his average!

It's a good innings today but he's getting left way behind by the very best in the world. I didn't realise e'sonly ever made two centuries outside of England.

Today really has been a microcosm of the series, with a strong position turned around in a few balls.

Personally I was surprised not to see Jimmy come in after Root was out. Having 5 top order batsmen out and a long tail doesn't bode well.

Morning all. Perhaps I'd better be back in bed come 10.30pm, it seems to have worked for a few hours last time

"..a strong position turned around in a few balls". A bit like us at Fulham then ... (bears out what someone said about England being like Ipswich!)

Well I was at 11pm for an hour, & it worked! Lots of fun from Broad, Eng all out for 346.

Aus now 1/1!! Bancroft 0, bowled Broad

I'm quite enjoying it tonight. The ball from Jimmy to get Warner was amazing!

Mason Crane is bowling well enough to suggest he could fulfil that role we've all been talking about. He spins it a lot as is keeping control. I think spinners need to be given time - Nathan Lyon was seen as a very average bowler for a long time but has improved loads.

Now we just ned to find that 94mph bowler and stop Stokes from going out!

Morning all! Far more than I thought we'd get, so a nice surprise this morning. Going to be hard work for the seamers, need the spinners to step up to the plate. I like the look of Malan's bowling, although part time he seems to have good control - should he bowl more or is that just me?

Unfortunately it's still 200 short of what we probably needed

I fully expect Oz to only bat once on this pitch :(

Looking at the bounce the Aussies got out of it, you do wonder if three seamers was the right call, not that we have the pace or height to exploit it really

Big day tomorrow or later tonight in fact!

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

346 was a bit better than it might have been, 193/2 well within expectations. Maybe we'll manage another wicket or two before Australia take the lead.

Also, South Africa - India has just started. Should be a good series without the frustration of supporting a team. South Africa 0/1 in the first over.

Yep Sky cricket, fantastic start by the Indians. Great to see ABDV back playing test cricket. Ball moving all over the place, strange decision to bat first when you have their 4 top quick's all playing (I think for the first time) and Faf said at the toss, lots of moisture in the wicket first up. 3 down now Amla gone!!

Come on Steve - you know we'll get a couple of wickets and then blow them away with the new ball! We'll get a lead of 250 and then Crane will destroy them! OK, sleep deprivation has made me delusional…

Just got the SA/India game on - some spell from Kumar.

Class counter attacking half century from AB, SA being slightly let off the hook by some pretty average bowling from Shami & Bumrah. Far too short. 94-3.
