“With an option of an extra year “ 17:43 - Jan 2 with 1820 views | trueblue97 | Just to clarify, does this mean it’s completely up to the club on whether they decide to take up the extra year of a contract and the player has no say in the matter?

The club recently took up the option of an extra year for Knudsen's services. Knudsen however forced their hand as the option expired 31st December. Full marks to Jonas.

“With an option of an extra year “ on 18:08 - Jan 2 with 1716 views | BloomBlue | No incorrect. If the club doesn't offer certain terms ie the yearly wage is a lot less than the current deal then the player can refuse the contract. However normally that is written into the agreement when that option was first signed.

That wouldn't then be an option, that would be the club offering a new deal on lower terms. The terms of the option will already be in the contract, including salary. There may be a clause that the salary drops if we've been relegated but that'll be about it.

Yes i'm sure that is correct. Also in some contracts a player has an option if he plays a certain number of games he can automatically claim a further year as i think was the case with Douglas .

Yep, that was the case with Douglas and possibly with Tabb as well. There's no negotiation as such with options, they're either taken up or they aren't.

Surely it's just extended on the same terms if the option is taken?
