Serious question re Chelsea v Liverpool on sunday 06:29 - May 3 with 1646 viewspistonbroke

If Liverpool win the champions league will the 5th placed team qualify for champions league next season , if that's the case surely it must be worth lumping on Liverpool to beat them

Assume UEFA wouldn’t allow six teams from one nation to compete in the CL so what would happen if Liverpool finish fifth and win the CL and Arsenal win the Europa?

In that case the fourth placed team in the premier league would drop to the Europe league. Think that any one nation can only have a maximum number of five clubs in the champions league per season.

Think it only happens if the team that wins the Champions League or Europa League finishes outside the top 4

So very unlikely that Liverpool winning changes it, but would be 5 if Arsenal pull off winning the Europa

I may be wrong

It was five this year because Man U had won the Europa League?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Indeed.

So if Liverpool slipped to fifth and won the European cup (not impossible) and arsenal won the europa league (less plausible), fourth place would miss out.

If that played out that would be Chelsea. Which would be hilarious.

It is a max of 5 teams but - to get the 5th place - the Champs League or Europa League winner would have to finish outside of the top 4. The 5th place cannot be awarded to a team finishing 5th in the league.

Btw, if Liverpool were to finish 5th but win the Champions League and 6th (or lower) Arsenal win the Europa League, then there are only 3 Champions League places in the Prem, so 4th would miss out. this isn't as unlikely as it sounds, as Liverpool still need to play Chelsea and Spurs are faltering a bit.

Highly unlikely, Liverpool are ahead of CFC on GD so would need to lose and then drop points at home to Brighton on the last day - not going to happen. Chelsea also would need to win away at Newcastle on last day who are in good form.

I also fancy them to give Chelsea a bit of hiding on Sunday. Two clear goals or more.
