How do we workout the odds on football. 19:23 - Jun 19 with 2179 viewsItfcesssx

How do we price up a football match.
It's done by using 100 % method & how we feel the punter will bet.
First if we think Ipswich ( of course they will win) will win.
Say we place Ipswich to win away at evens that's 50% of the market bet.
To draw 2/1 that will be 33.33% of the market
Home win 5/1 that will be 16.67% of the market.
This is known as a 'fair book'.
How do we get odds we look at prior form, statistics, historical precedents, expert opinions & any number of such factors that could impact the event, following this research & analysis, the bookmaker will be left with what they seem to be the most accurate possible true odds of any outcome occurring. If we had odds of 4/6, 6/4 and 4/1, we would expect to take 120 pounds at 4/6 60 pounds, 6/4 40 pounds and 20 pounds at 4/1, in that case, we would only ever need to payout 100 pounds of the total 120 pounds in stakes.

I was asking the other day if there was a chance to place a bet before the start of this season, on Ipswich finishing above Norwich in the Championship the following season.
If so, do you have a rough idea of what odds I could get?

And then, rather than being satisfied with scalping a nice slice of the pie, you rig the game further by screwing over anyone who wins consistently.

Not having a go at you personally although you do seem a little proud of switching to the bookies' side. Helping them create what is essentially a rigged system and should be illegal.

Well at present Norwich 10/11 get relegated
Ipswich to win outright is 11/2
Promotion is 2/1
I will have to ask one of the football traders if he can give you a price regarding that bet.

I think you are a nice enough guy to be honest with Sundaze.

Your employers are offering 10/11 and 2/1. Betfair Sportsbook are offering evens and 9/4. He would then have the flexibility to use his winning to roll over on to the season match bet with any bookmaker instead of being locked in with you.

I'm far from proud mate, I'm just happy that I don't bet anymore, like I keep saying, I love it when the average punter wins, just like I love it when a high rollers who bet with us lose, betting is rigged, I know this through my days of betting as a professional gambler. On Tuesday we had a horse running at Stratford in the 3.30 the horse in question was Deptuy Jones, we opened the market on Monday evening odds of 8/1 this horse was tipped by a few pro gambler's and highlighted in the spotlight in the Racing Post, anyway the price went down to 4/1 all because these 2 professional gamblers had tipped it, but they knew from inside information it wouldn't win, so they both layed it, well on Tuesday morning this horse had drifted from 4/1 to 25/1 !! The horse finished 3rd at 16/1 but those 2 tipsters made a fortune, yes horse racing is rigged.

Thanks to both of you for the help, I realise that betting isn't something I have any idea about. I will give it some thought whether I bother with the bet or leave it be.

The only way you can beat the bookies is to rewrite the rules of the game IMO.

It can be done. You can take the advantage away from the bookies.

I'm afraid the punter does, I will give you example price wise Tom Segal Racing Post on his tipping line put up on Monday,The Grand Visir to win at Ascot on Tuesday in the 5 o'clock race, soon as word got out that horse went from 20)1 to 12/1 in space of 30 mins and it won at 12/1. I agree regarding doing your own homework, we have so many tipping websites now days, do you know 80% tipsters on Twitter actually bookmakers trader's, they could put any horse up and because they think god he's a pro gambler, he knows what he is doing, so they place a bet on the horse!! Not knowing this person works for a bookmaker!!

Well people have tried to beat the bookies but have failed, why do you think they make so much profit every year, this will be even bigger now due to America, we have thousands of clients who bet on USA racing, the turnover for the Women's World Cup has been massive, we thought it would be a mid turnover, but it's turned out to be a massive turnover for bookies.

I have a method. Taken me 14 years to perfect it and I have only shared it with one person. The rules are well and truly in my favour. The best part is you would never work it out.

It's not matched betting but that is something I do as well. I miss my WH account for offers like golden goal and the weekend scratchcards.

Well I hope it works out well for you mate.
Yes the scratchcard has gone well we have everyone a 10 pounds free bet on Saturday!! Golden goal has been very popular, same with 2 race card meetings we other now in getting money back if the horse you bet finished 2nd, the promotion team have some good ideas coming for the new football season, I'm off to Ripon races tomorrow, taking clients out and then doing the same thing at Ayr racecourse on Friday, I suppose they will want me to give them some winners tommorow and Friday no pressure lol .

I do quite like Tom, of all the tipsters.
Great minds, I did The Grand Visir and got 25/1.
There are a lot of frauds out there, one on a well known racing channel, not sure he could tip his hat let alone a horse.

Because I have a set bank for betting which is growing but isn't massive at the moment.

The reason I don't just pile on is because nothing is certain. Despite the odds being heavily in my favour there are always shocks. If someone offered you evens on getting at least one 'tails' in ten tosses of a coin you would bet big but you wouldn't go all in because it's possible you could get ten heads.

With all due respect if your method was that good all the savvy punters in Britain would catch on and the bookies would be skint. There are a lot of very clever people out there. (Not saying you're not intelligent by the way). Anyway good luck because at the end of the day it's luck .

Roughly 2% of 'punters' make a profit. Why do the 98% not catch on? It's not as simple as you make out. I have no ego invested in this. I make the same amount of money whether people question me, put it all down to luck etc etc as I do when they believe me.

If you are interested, go on google and search betting systems. There will be endless sites promising you the world and unlimited riches for a one off payment. My method will never be on there because I would never share it with loads of randoms. It has taken too much work. I have shared the method with one person and I make a bit of money for a couple of family members but other than that it's my method and it's not for sharing

Interesting post.

Hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread - Caan Berry (savvy chap) explains this very well below:-

J2 and Rommers could probably explain this further....

I have been developing a method for a while, and am going to put it into practice next season. Very excited about it. In theory it should mean you are up over a long enough period of time (a season is easily long enough). It won't bring in huge profits but on paper at least it as near to guarantees a percentage increase.

We will see what happens.
