The good thing about this team is they do bounce back after a shocker and let’s be honest they’ve got the 3 best teams still to play. It’s about learning from today, but my concern is on a slow pitch this is a common outcome for them. They’ve got India at Edgbaston that could be another pitch like today. On the plus side we have a good record against New Zealand and Australia in recent years although games at a World Cup are always more challenging
The rankings are a bit of a red herring because teams often leave out their gun bowlers for ODI series
I think India are actually the best side and certainly know how to win tournaments

You were over the top describing England as fiat track bullies, the form over the last few years is far better than that. I do agree with you on the failure to adapt to slower pitches though.
I think there's also a lack of tournament nous here too, Australia manage to be crap for years and then get it together before nearly every tournament. That's annoying.

Respect your opinion Reuser, however this side has shown on slow pitches or two paced ones we don’t and we come unstuck. That’s the difference, India and The Aussies play smart cricket when it’s needed in different conditions. Both those sides would have found a way to get over the line today at 140-4. To me, there was a massive difference in optimism as far as I was concerned from it being 128-3, then 128-4 when Root was out. Panic set in, inability to play to conditions came in to play and self-destruct mode won out.
I hope Roy is fit to come in as Vince is just not international quality unfortunately. Moeen is fine hitting out when setting a target but woeful in a chase scenario.
I'm hoping that is our 'shocker' out of the way for the event but missing out on the top 4 with our fixtures remaining is very plausible and that would be massively embarrassing considering the pre-tournament hype. |  |

If we did miss out on the top four, it would be a bigger embarrassment than when we last held the World Cup here in 1999, when we lost out to Zimbabwe in getting through our group, and before the official world cup song was released.
Of course, that 99 World Cup was beyond abject but we've been accustomed to a decent ODI side for a few years now and this ultimately has been what we've been working towards.
I suspect we'll win one of our last three games but it looks a lot tighter than it did this morning when Sri Lanka were 3 for 2....sigh. | |

With the games left to play England are certainly the most vulnerable regarding a top four place.
