Apparently, it's a 'negotiating tactic'.

Although 'give us what we want or we'll f*ck ourselves into the ground' is a negotiating tactic that's up there with the classical toddlers' tactic of 'hold your breath until you pass out' in both how well thought out it is and how effective it's likely to be.
