Is it unfair?

"Your a fire starter, twisted fire starter.....Imagine actually living in a meritocracy, heavens forbid."

The conclusion from that is we don't live in a meritocracy and thus nobody gets where they are from deserving it. If he meant to caveat it by saying "some people" don't deserve what they have then fine.

There will undoubtedly be a Latin phrase meaning that you have added 2 and 2 and get 7.
We do not live in a meritocracy but some people reach their positions on merit.

**What was the name of that liberal 1960s open school where kids were allowed to run around "doing their own thing"?! "Summers"-something?

Summerhill is in the people's republic of Leiston and when I drove past it yesterday looked very much still open.

Fair enough - that's a much better way to make the point.

I'd say the current lot are a threat to everything.

Keeping the lights on will seem a walk in the park.

McDonald has just announced a 4 day week!!!

Hands-up if you are NOT scared!
He will cripple the economy in a heartbeat.
Forget Brexit, No Deal, North Korea......the REAL THREAT is right under your noses and you can't even smell it.......

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

You read half a book on Corbyn and all of a sudden you're an expert. Still, there's no bigger zealot than the recently converted I suppose.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

What's unrealistic about a four-day week? A lot of place now offer more flexible working hours/work from home, etc. Many studies show an increase in productivity and, obviously, a far better work-life balance.

It's the twenty-first century, we're not all clocking in at the pits.

It's a very appealing concept but it won't be available for everyone (without massive changes of course). Some jobs just require people to be there everyday (teachers for instance).

I read this last week which shows some pros and cons:

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/four-day-work-week-analysis

Myself, I would love it but perhaps it should be company led rather than legislation led?

Although establishing a 'new normal' through legislation is the best way to create wide-scale cultural changes like this.

Not sure there's ever a job that really needs someone five days a week any more than there used to be when people worked six days a week. It's just a culture change.

Think whatever happens people need to look at actual outcomes and productivity. Weird how things start dropping off Friday afternoon, innit?

Watch idle work, not idle workers ;)

I think of the practicality.
You need to be working (therefore available) 5 days each week.

Flexible working is not a 4 day week. Flexible working is allowing us to do stuff from different locations. A 4 day week is a 4 day week.

I'm all for flexible working and both my wife and I enjoy it. I'm now working from home on a proposal for a new client.

They are different.

That's great for companies where it works for both employer and workers. Having it dictated by the government, not so good.

I know they're different, it was just an example of how different the modern workplace is from years ago.

It's about productivity. We're still working on an arbitrary five-day week system when it may no longer be needed in many cases. Like I said above, why don't we work six days now? Because we found more effective ways of achieving the same results.

If I added up how much time my work actually took and how much I spent sitting at my desk pretending to work for my employer's benefit, I doubt I'd even reach four days.

Time's come to have a proper rethink about how we do things. The times they are a changin'.

I hear you and agree that a continuing tweaking of working patterns is important.

I feel that JM is not that progressive. He's too Socialist.

Teachers won't be required 5 days a week cos the kids will be off saving the world for one of them.

But if they are missing 20% of their education they will be easy to persuade their is no climate change due to their lack of scientific knowledge. Given that they won't be out protesting and we find ourselves in a paradox.

Universe goes boom.

A common thought for many of us I am sure. However, could you really increase your productivity at the expensive of your TWTD habit?

It's one of the hardest to kick.
