I know we are on poor form and cannot beat a top side.

However, at the start of the season I wonder how many of us would have accepted 2 points off the top two, 5 points off top and none of the top 3 left to play?

If (and it is a big if) we can recover our form promotion is there for the taking. Come on Town!

Nobody said it would be easy ...

No doubt all Town fans would've accepted that at the beginning of the season especially after the debacle of last year. However, those stats don't tell the true story of our current plight and though we are only 2 points off automatic promotion, we are a team that is on a downward spiral in comparison to our promotion rivals. Watched 'Talk of the Town' yesterday and the guest got it right, there are 4 or 5 stronger teams than us and we'll be fighting it our for 6th spot with 3 other sides. Bottom-line for me, we just don't look a very good side and certainly not one good enough for promotion currently.

I don't agree. One week ago everyone was saying "we'd turned a corner" now we have a settled side and consistent formation and a mini run of 5 unbeaten which saw us go back to the top of the league.

Now, all of a sudden after a bad week and two shocking performances, all that seems to have been forgotten and we're trawling back to stats form the start of October. The reality is, we can cut it however we like to paint whatever picture we like.

You say we don't look a very good side but we've been solid since start of Jan and looked very comfortable until Rotherham. The fallout from that game and the Posh has tainted perspective on here in my opinion. No doubt it was abysmal but the pessimism on here this week is largely because that mini revival lifted expectations again.

Even if we lose at Sunderland, i've no doubt we'll be there or thereabouts come May.

Quite entitled to your opinion Keaneish and I'm not going to convince you otherwise, but there are too many factors for me that indicate we aren't good enough. However, like your optimism!

I think the worry is that the five game unbeaten run is liking more like the blip.

Certainly that mini-run of playing well and getting results looks like a blip.

I don’t think we’re good enough to keep that going without a fit Garbutt, KVY and a clearer idea about how our attack works.

For me, I don’t think we really have any answers apart from:

1. Woolfenden needs to be one of the CBs
2. KVY is needed as an RB/RWB
3. Garbutt needs to be on the pitch, and ideally not as far back as LB
4. Downed and Huws are our best pairing in central midfield
5. Jackson’s pace and movement up front and particularly out wide is our biggest attacking threat so far

Apart from these “truths”, then I’m just not sure. And I imagine people will have good grounds for rejecting one or two of them.

On the face of it, this looks something to build on. And we have quality in players like Keane and Bishop and energy/attitude with players like Judge and Norwood. Problem is that we invariably look disjointed whatever we do to fill the gaps.
