If you're in certain positions of responsibility you can be done for engaging in or soliciting sexual relationships with people under 18. I don't know whether that would cover him though, it was designed mainly with people like teachers, youth workers etc. in mind. Given the level of authority invested in his role though I do wonder if he could be covered by that. |
The same applied to me when I was taxiing. You're in a position of influence as you may be spending time with the same people (under 18s) most days so are in a position to groom.
There was one girl* who had a bit of a troubled background who would hop into the front of the car and flirt with the drivers. I made her sit in the back and eventually refused to take her. She went on to accuse another driver of inappropropriate behaviour and he lost his job.
I'm guessing that a potential legal issue could be this bit, " inviting him to dinner and to a parliamentary event as his guest" as he's using his position of power, hence the use of the term 'grooming'?
