For anyone else struggling mentally with the constant negativity in the media 11:36 - Apr 14 with 1011 viewsThisIsMyUsername

I recommend regularly reading the Twitter feed of Karol Sikora.

Even if what he says is ultimately wrong, all of his posts are reassuringly positive, and it's a much more pleasant way to stay up to date with what is happening.

Yes. Also on here where the analysis of every bit of news seems to be negative.

….is not just inevitable, but could be genuinely harmful to some people if they are already vulnerable.

It's really not helpful to be constantly spreading negative, bad news, whther it's true or not (it normally isn't)

If anyone is looking for a balanced, realistic, informed and quite often positive view of things then you could do a lot worse than look at Professor Karol Sikora.

@ProfKarolSikora

He's primarily a senior oncologist, but also a CMO and a former WHO director.

I have met him personally a couple of times and his is an inspiring character.

Don't feed the trolls (apart from Bluefish, obviously)

Unfortunately it got hijacked, but yes there is a real need for something to act as an antidote to all the negativity.

Well said.

His handle reads

'@ProfKarolSikora
Oncologist for 50 years. CMO of Rutherford Health. Founding Dean and Professor of Medicine at the Uni of Buckingham. Ex-director of the WHO Cancer Programme."

So I'd be surprised "if what he says is ultimately wrong". Reckon also he probably doesn't have 121.5K followers for nothing.

Thanks for the recommendation.

….illuminati is constantly retweeting negativity on twitter.

It's getting a bit much to be honest, which is a shame because he's a thoroughly decent chap otherwise.

I think in times like this there is a lot to be said for surrounding yourself with positive people.

Lambert out.

Very true. Ive stopped coming on here so much, because of the negativity. Every piece of news is analysed to death on here. Everyone is an expert. When really no one knows. We havent even got a vaccine. But everybody knows best.

Don't bother with news sites or social media.

Just read the official adice from PHE, official figures from the ONS and then go and watch something decent on Netflix / Now TV.

But I'm surprised people want to try and find a "positive spin" on a disease that will kill thousands of people. Some things are just bad and need to be confronted.

You're welcome.

Re some of what he says potentially being wrong... I have copied and pasted below his exit strategy which he believed (as of April 8th) to be realistic. Surely no one can actually see this happening?

April 27th -

Get shops and businesses of less than 50 people back open.

It's great news we've seen this happening elsewhere in Europe. Keep the vulnerable shielded till June, but stop the isolation of families.

May 4th - Remove the lockdown.

Open schools, public transport and remove wide scale social distancing.

Extreme caution would still be required but I believe this is possible.

June 1st - Allow international travel and public events/mass gatherings.

That does all look much too early I agree.

He is sticking to his guns and has reiterated that he believes this timeline to be plausible.
