Did anyone see Ian Wright’s tweet about racist abuse he got 18:45 - May 11 with 4280 viewsIllinoisblue

On Instagram? Utterly disgusting and yet weird in that the scumbag who sent the abuse, mid rant, had a dig saying “and Ronaldo R9 will always be better than you”. So very strange to go from telling someone you hope their family dies to having a nonsensical pop at their footballing ability. No doubt the little prick has already played the “i was hacked” card.

That's true.

And you would of course hope so.

Although on the other hand, as we have seen over many years on here, had one of our more right wing posters made the post then the silence would have been deafening from some.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

Wright has been called a hypocrite.

I don't consider that the same as saying he deserves racist abuse.

And the poster's history will tell you he has always stood against racism and bigotry in general.

Neither attitude has any place in society.

How does something he did 20-odd years ago make him a hypocrite for receiving a torrent of racist abuse now?

You’re one of the better posters on here but you’re massively wide of the mark here - the post was quite clearly turning the focus back on Wright when the only sane reaction would be to consider the abuse horrendous

And I disagree with your assessment of said poster too, FWIW

What? Clearly one poster has implied that he does, otherwise what relevance does his own past behaviour have?

Chutney’s is not the bang out of order post in this thread

Thanks, appreciate that.

I won't edit my post, nor will I apologise for giving the detail of what Ian Wright has been subjected to.

To open the thread and see a reply such as that one is quite sickening, and I would suggest its THAT that needs editing or moderating. I was always taught that 2 wrongs don't make a right, and the implication that someone somehow deserves to be racially abused because they've themselves made mistakes in the past is frankly, unacceptable.

I don't give a fk what the posters 'history' says, I won't stand for that.

I'm not going to get onto a disagreement as I have equal respect for you, so would rather leave it that we've both had our say.

I didn't say it did. It doesn't. I seem to recall that talksport censored people who tried to raise Wright's stupidity when he laid into David Norris a few years ago.

Glasshouses and stones.

I’ve only just seen this comment and it’s a totally moronic thing to say.

Ian Wright comments about a referee years ago were wrong.
David Norris actions a few years ago were wrong.

To imply that Wright is being hypocritical for not seemingly accepting this sort of abuse is unwarranted- if a right-winger had stated ‘Glasshouses and stones’ then he would have been heavily criticised.

Disgusting. It really is.

You're not 'standing' against anything.

You're making a scene to big yourself up.

I've had hidings standing up to racists and the last time I was left half dead in the street so I'm damned if I'm going to take lessons from anyone on here.

Strange thread. Seems to be some people wanting to read more into a short post that there could be.

I'm sure we all agree that there's no place for that kind of racial abuse.

Quite.

Not difficult is it.

I'm not 'making a scene', bigging anyone up or giving anyone a lesson, so perhaps put down your cliche handbook, step back and see that post for what it is.

To open a thread on a sensitive subject like that and see a reply along the lines of 'is this the same guy that did X in the past' certainly implies that it's in some way deserved. It's bang out of order. No if's, no but's.

"No ifs no buts".

Surprised you didn't put 'period' on the end so everyone knows how right you must be.

I'm not going to argue with you. I don't think that post is appropriate. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I'm sure its just poorly worded, but the suggestion the abuse is somehow justified helps nobody.

I've been on the receiving end of racist abuse more times than I care to remember, of varying degrees of severity. I'm sorry to hear you were physically assaulted for standing up for what is right.

Have a good night.

Is it possible that people, including Ian Wright, can change and develop as a human being over time? He is not the same person now as he was years ago?

He said that Dennis Bergkamp changed his attitude on the pitch and being a Father changed it off it. He basically grew up, which is something that we all do. (well most of us anyway).
