Been thinking on Dozzell and i think Lambert just has to make the call that he's playing and go with it. He's a big asset to the club and one of a few players that has potential to hold a lot of value (both playing but quite frankly financial as well). I'm all for winning the right to play and up to now its fair enough BUT we are going with youth and we're at the do it or not point now with Dozzell and the only way we'll know is if we just give him 20 games to get in and find his form. I think we've got to take the calculated gamble on him.

Some interesting views of various midfield players. Personally I would not be adverse to two of Dozzell, Bishop, Huws, Nolan and Judge leaving the club this summer allowing us to try to address the balance in the squad. This is on the assumption that their departures would enable other areas of the squad to be improved upon. Those areas would include another left back, a centre back and a defensively minded midfielder for when Skuse cannot perform to the level required across a full season. I would not expect all of these areas to be dealt with by the funds generated from the departure of two of those midfielders, but we could make a start. We need to be realistic that Chambers and Skuse will start deteriorating and making preparations for that.

However, going back to the original post and Dozzell, I struggle to see where he actually fits into a team. He wants to play in front of the back four collecting the ball from them and passing forwards, but such a role requires good defensive awareness, physicality and the ability to tackle. He can't just spray around passes there and not worry about when we don't have the ball. If you played for the opposition and knew that Dozzell would be trying to pick you defensively you would be looking forward to the game. He would definitely need a defensively minded midfielder alongside him. However, I am not keen on a midfield which would have Dozzell collecting the ball from the back four and then someone like Skuse around him who is not really offensively minded. It creates too much pressure on the other midfielders and the strikers. As a full back you would also not be entirely certain that if you got forward that Dozzell would be looking to cover the space you have left behind. I think that it is a problem that Dozzell might have to address if he wants to further his career whether with us or another team.

4-2-3-1 with Dozzell playing as one of the two. He needs to improve his defensive awareness/capabilities but to me that's the position that best suits him - a deep lying play maker that can get us moving the ball through the lines.

It's no use giving him an hour here, 20 minutes there, being out of the squad for two games and playing wide of a front 3 then central midfield in a 3, then central in a 4-4-2, then one of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1. He (and the team as a whole) needs consistency and he needs to hone his talents on the training pitch to effectively play the role allocated for him. He's got too much to offer to leave this club without being given a fair crack.

He's nowhere near being defensively sound enough to play in a two in a 4-2-3-1. If we are going to give him a run he needs to be in a 3 for me, playing in between two midfielders who can get up and down and do the defensive work.

If we want Town to play attractive passing football, Skuse shouldn't be in the team. Moves the ball too slowly & always looks for the easy option, usually returning the ball to the back 4. Huws could be a better option as a defensive midfield player.
I think Dozzell needs a run of games as an attacking midfield player. Too lightweight to play a defensive midfield role. However, we have far too many players vying for that position. Getting rid of Judge as well as Skuse would be a good start.
