Players adapt to new roles all the time, it is hardly a big stretch to play out there for someone with his attributes.

Freddie has been fine out there, he's started week in, week out and there is a huge difference between a wide forward and playing on the flank in a 442 (which he had previously done at Col U anyway) as it is

Jack Lankester was a striker until Hurst came in, you have spoken about playing El Mizuni and Dobra on the flanks - that isn't their position, they simply have never played there for the u18s and U23s.

Exactly. Aren't the likes of Rashford and Greenwood centre forwards by trade? The wide forward role isn't the same as being a winger in a 4-4-2, you're right that Sears tended to be wasted when played wide in a 4-4-2 but some of his best runs for us in the side have been as a wide forward. Loads of attacking players, especially those with pace, transition from being centre forwards to wide forwards. Jackson already favours doing his work in those areas as it is.

The same Freddie you've got starting out wide in a different thread?

I think that thread says could be, not should be. And it still could be, I think Lambert will go for Sears / Bishop / Lankester in behind a lone striker, but that's not the same as should be.

Please read my posts properly before commenting, many thanks.

Freddie has been fine out there, not great though. It would be the same story with Jackson.

Lankester's best best position is wide right. Dobra wide left, as we've seen him play for u23's and first team. I'd like to know where I have stated El Mizouni is a wide man? His best position is a no.10.

Anyway it doesn't matter if it isn't their position, players adapt to new roles all the time, right?

Dobra isn’t a wide left player.

Glad you finally got there though

I'm just saying from I've seen him play his best football, both U23's and first team, and that's all been from the left.

We could shoehorn him wherever you like though and hope he adapts to the position, we need a new left-back, he'll pick up that role, right?

When has he even played from the left for the first team? It's mostly been from the right in the very limited time when he has played..

But he is a number 8 or number 10, that is where he has spent his youth career playing, but has had to learn a new role to play in the first team as isn't trusted in those roles.

Jack Lankester had never played right wing until the pre season he broke through, never at all......

Fortunately forward roles, unless you are an out and out target man are pretty fluid and players seem to easily be able to play across them

Are you suggesting this chap might not have actually seen them play at youth level? I'm shocked!

Although he’s been limited this year, I think a front two with Gillingham with Jordan Roberts in the cup, but Luton away in the early rounds he played from the left for the first team, scored as well!

He won’t be an 8, he could play a 10.

I also agree, especially in that 4-2-3-1 that the front three in behind a striker tend to be fluid, and would imagine can play anywhere across that line, I would prefer him on the left, coming in.

I’ve probably seen more youth games than you’ve seen first team games...

I thought you might disagree somehow haha!

What and when have you seen Jackson as a wide forward? and when have you ever seen him productive as wide for forward?

Will he know the role? Will he know the defence duties? will he know about partnerships with his full -backs?

Screams to me that you are trying to shoehorn him in because he's quick.

He played wide right against Bristol Rovers at home and was excellent - check out the highlights on YouTube, it’s basically the Jackson show.

Astounded Lambert never (or hardly ever - I forget) played him there again.
