Is it going to take the tragic death of a teenage boy 12:04 - Aug 19 with 2890 views | GlasgowBlue | For the governments of Europe to wake up to how desperate these poor people are, fleeing from war, violence and persecution? Every government should be taking in their fair share of refugees. Whether it's a vote winner or not (and after years of migrant demonisation it isn't), it's the right thing to do.

I'm processing it by assuming that those commenting lead shabby pathetic lives, and that those lives end, soon, painfully and slowly. Lower than vermin.

Horrible stuff, what's worse is coming across these people in real life and realising that somehow they've managed to become a fully functioning adult despite holding these views and in many cases, not hiding them.

And whilst I understand the safe country argument, this is the kind of thing that other safe countries are doing, it’s completely heartless. The Social Media are even more horrific than usual.

Is it going to take the tragic death of a teenage boy on 12:13 - Aug 19 by GlasgowBlue | Sadly, you're not wrong. It's been five years since wee Alan Kurdi was found washed up on the Greek coast. We've learned nothing and have probably gone backwards in how we are attempting to resettle refugees. At least Cameron had some good intentions and was shamed into putting measure in place but that seems like a lifetime ago. |
We have a very good method of settling refugees, that works with excellent home office and UNHCR liaison and has surprising levels of success. The downsides are that we can't scale it sufficiently because it relies on local volunteers and charity organisations who don't get funding assistance, other than through the benefits system.
