Favourite England Cricket Team from players you've seen (live or TV) on 07:51 - Aug 27 with 623 views | hampstead_blue | Boycott Gooch Gower Robin Smith Lamb Stokes Russell Broad Anderson Lever Tufnell One problem is pitches. I am 49 and have watched cricket for as long as I can remember (thanks Dad and Grandad). I saw Underwood and seriously thought about including him. However, his success was on a 'sticky' so I felt a more modern bowler ought to be included. Seam bowling is another. In the 90's we were hardly blessed. Gough, Caddick, Fraser. Good but hardly scary day in day out. Emburey, Edmonds both had gorgeous actions, Tuffers, Peter Such, John Childs. The Judge and Allan Lamb are a must for guts and ability to score in the toughest of scenarios - think Windies.

That’s a pretty good team and well thought out. Nice to see Russell getting a few nods

Robin Smith was brilliant, my favourite when growing up. Was awful the way he was dropped - he averaged 40 in his final year as an england batsmen, half-century in his last game, then dropped, never seen again. In the 90s we had so many seamers who were almost there, but not quite - Dominic Cork, Gladstone Small and Alan Mulally a few others who were brilliant on their day, but never quite managed to sustain it over a long period.

Thanks. I liked the idea of Lever, who's test record is very good, as the change-up. Also he can settle into an accurate spell. 'Drill a hole' it's called I think. Captain. Well, Gooch as I just love his work ethic.

I came close to have Lever instead of Willis, and if I'd been picking a more balanced bowling line up would have probably gone with him he had such a smooth action

Still holds the record for most amount of beer consumed on the Sydney to Heathrow flight, though Steve Thompson England rugby World Cup winning hooker would have beaten it but for them running out of cans on the way home from winning the World Cup! I’m amazed anyone can seriously say Atherton is a better opener than sir Alistair Cook. Mine would be Gooch Cook Vaughan Gower Pieterson Stokes Flintoff Knott Swann Anderson Willis Bob Willis in his prime was seriously quick breaking an Aussies jaw in the centennial test in Melbourne. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Have you read The Judge? Came out last year, I borrowed it off a mate so it's next on my reading list. I liked Smith, didn't really watch enough cricket when he was playing to put him above those who I did see.

Not read it, thanks for the suggestion. Was also great to watch Hampshire play and win the one-day competitions in the early 90s - was a big fan even though I had absolutely no link to the county - they just had the most likeable players. I remember Warwickshire were also good around then, but Dermot Reeve was probably a bit of a n*b.
