Yep, the greatest of our greats in my opinion.

Strange that 4 of the 5 were goals and the other was nearly signing for Liverpool given the fact that he’s our best ever defender! Probably best ever player.

I don’t think any of us who were fortunate enough to see him play would dispute that he is our best ever player.

As Tina Turner sung...... 'Simply the best,.... better than all the rest'. Incredible how high he could climb for a header. His goal for England against Scotland always come to mind when I think back of him and another when he came on as a very late sub at Goodison Park 80/81 and scored a header with his first touch if my memories correct.

Not sure if it was with his first touch at Everton but I was quite near the front behind that goal and my memory tells me that he made contact with the ball above the level of the crossbar and actually headed it down to get it under the bar. It was 1979/80 though not 80/81.

I remember the West Brom keeper saying he really didn't fancy trying too save Beats shot in the 7-0 win as it was travelling faster than anything else he'd faced

Cheers for the correction, I was behind the goal as well although further back. Cup tie wasn't it and we had just gone 2-0 down. Sure Beattie was not fully match fit and he came on as an emergency striker to do exactly what he did...but too late! Great atmosphere that day and loads of Town fans on the terraces behind that goal.

Yes to all that.

That game was a week after we beat Man U 6-0 at PR.

Any chance that can be narrated in English?

If the narration gets changed they could also change the factual error that says the WBA game was Paul Mariner's debut-it was his home debut but his first appearance for us was at Old Trafford the week before.

Yes, cup game. Travelled by train on the football special to Lime Street, marched by escort to the ground, sat in the upper tier, free for all following the game in an attempt to get onto one of the local buses back to Lime Street and avoid the violence that followed. Terrific atmosphere created by both sets of supporters.

Second anniversary although I had not registered that until I saw it on ITFC Twitter.

I too count myself very lucky that I saw him play. Just finished his book and I must admit I didn’t realise how far he fell after leaving the game. He often didn’t help himself, but to think that one of the greatest players (the greatest?) to ever play for us ended up on a building site doing some labouring is dreadful. Incredibly sad how footballers were treated back then.
