What a player we have there. My man of the match. He seems to have added a bit of physicality this season .

He really just needed a proper run.

Absurd he didn't have it. Hurst, idiot. And Lambert last season.

Yes, he just needed a proper run in the team in a settled position, and to be given the responsibility of making the team tick.

Same with lots of young players. It's all about giving them responsibility & putting faith in them - not dragging them off after 45 minutes / picking them one week and not the next etc.

My man of the match too. I think what all players need in order to find any sort of form is an extended run in the side. He seems to have had 1 game in and 3 out for what feels like an eternity, then people question why he might be off the pace. It’s great to see him getting a run of starts and long may it continue. What hasn’t been always been obvious to me is what his best position is, where he’s a more attacking midfielder who carries a goal threat, or a number 10, or in this deeper lying playmaker role. He really needs to carve out his niche and ‘stand for something’ IMO which he has a great opportunity to do now in this deeper role. He’s the best technician we have and in that deeper role he’s perfect for offering an option to the back 4 and using the space he’s allowed. Excellent range of passing, whether it’s those floated balls out wide, diagonal balls to the wide men or disguised passes such as that to Bishop which created Hawkins chance and a good save. He’s got that bit of X factor and in a 3 he’s got the luxury of being a luxury, where as in a 2 there’s no licence to go missing to the extent he has previously.

Very encouraging start. Love to see it.

On another (unrelated note) I'd guess that Josh Emmanuel will be a pretty decent Championship (or higher) defender in a couple of years, now that he looks likely to get decent run at being first-choice right-back in a decent-ish team (that he's actually signed to).

That pass to Bishop was absolutely delicious. Threaded it through the eye of a needle. That deep lying role suits him with his range of passing, he can get involved consistently and get us playing.

Yep, he has been excellent this season so far, and the quick thinking passing has been the thing that has allowed us to unlock defences on a much more regular basis, as opposed to the laboured passing last season.

I suspect this thread subject will become a regular feature this season.

Getting him in form, and Bishop finally on the pitch, utterly transforms our attacking play.

It’s great seeing him blossom - we knew he had it in him but he just wasn’t showing it before. The best headline we could see now is a long term contract has been signed but I fear that won’t be happening. I’m going to enjoy his play for the moment, though.

Wouldn't be a great deal though if we did. The new rules mean we just don't have the money to offer anything spectacular.

Something structured with a big promotion pay rise and a release clause, maybe?

Certainly was. I’m no Skuse hater, or Huws for that matter, but the speed at which we’ve used the ball this season compared to last is like chalk & cheese. That, plus our lack of recognised fullbacks and unnecessary rotation were the biggest 3 issues last season which was quite obvious to most people except Lambert. Early signs are we’ve addressed all 3 and as a result we’re so so much harder to play against.

Very encouraging.
