Another testing scandal on 08:12 - Oct 8 with 879 views | Swansea_Blue | So a £1m contract will end up costing £3m for a substandard service. This is what “take back control” looks like. It doesn’t mean greater transparency so we can see where and how public money is spent. And it isn’t aimed at doing a better job. It’s all about grubby little deals aimed at lining the pockets of family, friends and allies.

Another testing scandal on 08:36 - Oct 8 with 831 views | pointofblue | If the government did everything above board why not let it go to court? They’ve either spent £2m of public money for no reason or are desperately trying to cover their backs. Either way it just enhances what an incompetent shambles they are.

What deluded nincompoops like boris don't grasp is that all companies who seek public sector contracts watch the award of those contracts like hawks. Any hint of failure to play by the book, and one (or more) aggrieved companies will sue. There is a nice clear (well, relatively) clear process set out by the EU. boris and co seem determined to reinstitute eighteenth century 'patronage' (what we'd call corruption these days) in both public sector procurement and public sector recruitment.

The lawyers would tell them they don't stand sufficient chance of winning and settling would be cheaper.

The way this government has used the pandemic to direct public money to feather the nests of its buddies is an absolute scandal. It shouldn't be legal. Everyone should be up in arms about it. This is millions if not billions of taxpayers' money going to companies with no track record of doing what they have been paid to do, and often then not delivering, at a time when we really needed equipment and services to be delivered effectively and efficiently. It's no wonder the overall response to Covid has been catastrophic. And yet people still defend them.

Suspect scores of unlawful contracts have been awarded involving Covid. All in the cause of a swift response, well that will be the defence offered.

Jolyon Maugham is currently challenging several of them through the courts. Many multi-million pound PPE contracts handed out to companies with no track record of delivering PPE and in some cases companies with next to no revenue or trading history. The one common denominator with these companies has tended to be some sort of link to the Tory Party.

No matter how good an idea maybe you need to get your voice to the right ears, currently that means someone who can influence Johnson, or Cummings. The likes of Capita did very well out of past Labour governments.
