Does anyone here know Lee O’Neill? on 09:19 - Jan 12 by itfcjoe | I can see why, he's an easy target and has to sometimes come out and defend the indefensible. None of us really know how good he is at his job, to me it appears he is spread too thinly across too many areas - he still is the Academy Manager in all this at the moment. But the PE teacher thing, and claiming he is underqualified or experienced is just demonstrably wrong. If Danny Cowley got the job here would his past as a PE teacher be relevant, or his experience in football? |
Not sure that it is wrong to claim that he lacks experience as a General Manager. As you say, it is difficult to tell how good he is in his role. However, we have struggled with injuries for a long while now. Does make you wonder why.

He's been doing it for over 2 years now, and has taken a common route into that role so I think it probably is now. That doesn't mean he is good at it, but inexperience isn't an issue any more in reality

I think we do, it's very little. Good to see that after years of blaming Milne and McCarthy for Evans' poor decisions, fans have moved onto O'Neill. Evans is the decision maker and, when it comes to football, he's an abysmal one.

Does anyone here know Lee O’Neill? on 09:17 - Jan 12 by DanTheMan | I think people started criticising more forcefully when he came out backing Lambert again, trotting out very similar excuses that others had. Then there was the absolute nonsense he said out about Phil as well. |
Can he really say what he thinks when he's employed by the club? Evans makes those decisions, if he had made the decisions then fair enough but he's almost like Trump's press secretary in some regards. He could have worded things better but he's there as Evans' mouthpiece without it seems the ability to make decisions.

That's Dan Ashworth former FA director of elite development and current technical director at Brighton.

I agree with you, but I think it just rubbed people the wrong way and that's fed into the overall criticism. Also, on a more general point, the fact the club seems to be lagging behind a lot of clubs in the way we operate.

Depends how you define experience. If I had the choice of two candidates for the role: 1) with 1 year as an assistant to a successful GM/DoF at another club; or 2) with 2 years essentially self-learning the job at ITFC, I think I would take 1. Trouble is, someone with quality experience will cost, but ME hasn't ever seemed prepared to pay for that.

Indeed. It’s appearing evident that he falls below Lambert in the chain of command and power at the club. Dangerous times. The Joker is in charge at Arkham Asylum. 😱😱😱

Well let me help you. Since becoming Director of Football Operations he has: blamed fans for the failings of the club, defended the indefensible in the media with regards to Lambert and results, claimed the human body isn't designed for football, and blown smoke up Evans' ar*e by telling anyone who'll listen how lucky ITFC is to have him. He's a fraud.
