UK Variant mutating again on 12:57 - Feb 2 with 703 views | Guthrum | The virus is mutating constantly. Those (few) changes which are beneficial to the virus being passed on will come to predominate. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will be a worse illness for humans - indeed, knocking out your host is not usually advantageous to survival.

UK Variant mutating again on 13:22 - Feb 2 with 646 views | J2BLUE | There have been something like 12,000 mutations so far according to Dr Campbell. Most of which die out as they can't compete. Lets hope the vaccines are effective. I'm not overly bothered about the effectiveness of stopping you catching covid IF the vaccines keep 99% out of hospital like some of the early figures are suggesting. Obviously it varies a bit for each vaccine.

Having had it, I think people should be interested in the effectiveness of it stopping transmission. It's a fkr that can screw you up even if you don't end up in hospital. I wouldn't have wished what I had on my worst enemy.

Whilst this is correct they are concerned as the specific mutation they are seeing is the similar to the SA and Brazilian variants. Worth noting that you are of course correct about it being a bad move for viruses in general to mutate to become more lethal but C19 actually has quite a lot of scope to mutate to become more lethal whilst still being highly contagious given it's relatively low mortality rate. If it increased to 3%, 5% or even 10% it would likely still have a high enough R (without restrictions) to move on to other hosts before it's current host died. SB

Indeed I have 3 friends who caught it last March who are only now starting to feel better, hope you are getting there, I certainly don't fancy running the risk of catching it.
