Doesn't want to take the sack and doesn't want to give up the play. His ability to extend the plays and get away is incredible.

I was amazed how he was able to throw the ball straight when pretty much being tackled to the ground, ( And very nearly ended up with a TD) i'd have hit the sidelines without a doubt lol

Usually that works out well for him, but a couple of things were at play tonight - As J2 said, he had no bad protection and his usual time to scan the field was much less than usual.
Also he has a toe injury, which may not sound all that much but has a big impact on pushing off repeatedly.
Extending the play and running back is usually a big part of his game that works devilishly well, but tonight he was simply unable to scan the field, that and the penalties the KCC players invoked were ridiculous (not bad ref calls, but bad decisions from the players).
This is what a fully fit Mahomes does more often than not when he extends the play and runs backwards.
