Seriously messed mother / situation.
The good news of course is how a community mobilised to help search for a missing young girl and thankfully that she turned up alive and physicaĺy unharmed.
7 kids, no idea how they are getting on, but hopefully all on good paths in better homes too.
Well made, factual rather than judgemental doc with real testimony from many close to the story. Worth a catchup if you are out of netflix series... |  |

I remember seeing a programme about it on C5 a while back, but maybe it’s a different one - I think it had Nick Ferrari and Amanda Plattel as contributors.
The most interesting bit was Karen Matthews’ old mate saying that she reckoned there must have been more people involved in the plan (other than her boyfriend’s uncle) as she was too thick to devise something like that herself. |  |

I've seen a couple of documentaries on Youtube. What the case does highlight, is the extent of the hopelessness in many communities. No education, no jobs, no self respect or pride in their homes. Everyone on benefits, knocking out kids who themselves will end up exactly the same. Very sad. |  |

It was 9 months after Madeleine McCann went missing. There is a thought they did it in view of seeing how much money the McCann's were managing to raise in the search for Madeleine, both as a support fund and also potential reward money being offered if finding her. |  |
