Went behind to a soft goal with Accrington looking sharper all round. Then down to 10 but we miss the penalty, keeper makes another great save and we’re looking hesitant and unsure.
But we picked up the tempo and kept patient. The pressure then started to tell and Accrington really fell back. The two goals came pretty much as a result of that overall pressure.
Sure, it’s easy enough against 10 men but we worked as a team to take advantage of it. More of the same second half.
Also a very nice touch from Cook. He’s clearly letting Gill take the lead so he’s contenting himself just by getting in the ear of the officials. That’s quite a voice he’s got on him! |  |

I thought we looked dangerous (in relative terms) all half. They had moments too but Bennetts has squared his man up every time he's had the ball and more often than not done something positive. And Judge and Kenlock have got something good going on down the left. If there is any slow possession at least its well into their half. |  |

Yes, best game so far for Bennetts and while his final ball often frustrates it seems he’s tying up the defenders more and more for every game. | |

Although that was the first half summary.
Unfortunately, second half was a bit too even despite the extra man. We dropped off, lost cohesion and didn’t create much, Accrington stepped up and even pushed play into our half. In the end, it could quite easily have been a draw.
The good news is that the game gave Paul Cook a very decent summary of a lot of our issues. And overall, that we’re a real mixed bag even when we win. | |

Yeah exactly. Think that applies to a lot of the players too, the midfielders in particular who did a lot of really excellent things and then they’d disappear from the game for 5-10 minutes.
I wonder in particular of what he made of Dozzell. Moved round like a Rolls-Royce at times and swept passes to his teammates in space. Then had a shocker of a 5-minute spell before he was subbed where he seemed to take 3 or 4 bad decisions in a row and poorly execute them as well. Would be nice to see him more comfortable in his role throughout a game so think a more solid and structured team and style could help him a lot. | |
