Stopover views 19:15 - Mar 5 with 475 views | hoppy | Which is the stopover brand of choice for a lengthy journey? Travelodge, Premier Inn, Holiday Inn etc? I think for value and knowing what you're getting, we tend to usually go Premier Inn. HOLIDAY OUT!

Gets expensive with 4 though as we often need 2 double rooms. We probably spend more on 2 stopovers than 2 weeks camping or clamping in between. Dijon was the last one we did - it cut the mustard [groan]. I like quirky places different from the chains. A pool is a bonus if not essential (keeps the kids happy). Out of town is good too, but depends - some towns in France are worth the stopover alone. And you get the odd curveball that surprises you - the youth hostel in a castle in Toledo is superb. We don’t stopover in the UK, it’s tiny and we can get anywhere in a day from here.

We all stayed in an F1 in Birmingham years back when England were playing Holland at Villa park. I think it was about £19 a room. The room - including toilet and shower and stuff was just one big plastic mould. I would have stayed in something better but we had the yoof squad with us and they were all skint

"We don’t stopover in the UK, it’s tiny and we can get anywhere in a day from here." Whilst there is some truth in that, there are occasions when, for example, visiting the West Country for the traditional TWTD Grand BBQ... and wanting to arrive in good time after travelling from Ipswich, we have oft travelled down most of the way and stayed in a Premier Inn on the Friday night, so that our arrival is timely on the Saturday to make a reasonable start on the important job of drinking etc...

That’s the one! I just said to my better half “what’s the name of that place we stayed at in France that had the all plastic bathroom?”. Did the job to be fair. I didn’t realise we had them here.

"We don’t stopover in the UK, it’s tiny and we can get anywhere in a day from here." Depends how much you hate driving. I was in Birmingham at a trade show and the rule is for fart arsed size stands like ours is that you have to break down and leave on the same night as the last day of the show. One time my Mrs was with me and I just couldn't be arsed with the nightmare of breaking down with all the hell that goes with it (and I fancied another night in Brum) so I told the organisers that I had lost my van keys and couldn't break down. Next day we did it and drove home but as we were approaching the Cambridge section of the A14 I just couldn't go on and stayed in a hotel in Cambridge for the evening.

I suppose that’s fair enough. You obviously have friends though and we don’t
