Long England B tours would be an improvement and we shouldn’t be flying in to a country and not playing first class games before test matches. It used to be weeks before a first test, it’s now a matter of days. I know it’s the pressures of the calendar but the ECB really have to look at what the objectives of sending our test team abroad are. If it’s to compete then we need to do better preparation. |
Indeed. Also the rotation - and short series - do not allow players to get into a rhythm.

Don't know why they didn't send him in ahead of Bess.

We’re not radical enough. |
Actually India have the greatest resources...and a population of 1.3 billion which produces way more players than we do. Cricket isn't even played in most schools here anymore...

The rotation policy is well meaning but the implementation has been a joke. They had decided months ago who was playing when and who was resting taking no consideration to form, conditions or team performance. Look at Bairstow, finally gets back in the Test team in SL, get some form, then goes home to England in the middle of winter for a few weeks and flies back for the third test. No cricket or prep and guess what, can hardly hit a ball? Buttler, if they wanted to rest him just leave him out the whole series, why play 1 match? We always struggle in India anyway so that first test gave a lot of false hope but there is a way to lose and our performances and how we have rolled over has been very poor. No fight at all with the bat.

Feel for Root..at no point did he have his best team available. The nearest was the first test which, surprise, we won...but then broke that winning team up and lost momentum. Root was then trying to win with one arm tied behind his back, and coupled with generally poor form from his big names like Stokes, Broad and Archer, it was a near impossible task even leaving out those pitches which gave inexperienced players no chance. Lots of lessons to learn, yes there was some rank poor batting but the management need to look at themselves too.

It's the obsession with the Ashes that creates this. India are the no.1 team in the world and we more or less treated the series as a free hit. Like you say, after that first test when you saw the sides announced, the series was only going to go one way. I hope we take this summer against the Indians a bit more seriously because it will be Bumrah this time licking his lips.

Yes I don't think it will be as easy as people think this summer. India showed in Australia how they can fight in away conditions. Bumrah, Yadav, Siraj, Sharma in England - they will challenge our attack.
