Next season squad as things stand 16:24 - Apr 6 with 5854 views | itfcjoe | GK Holy Cornell RB Vincent-Young Crowe - U23 LB Kenlock Smith - U23 CB Woolfenden Ndaba Baggott - U23 CM Nolan Downes Dozzell McGavin Chirewa - U23 WF/AM Lankester Dobra Crane - U23 ST Norwood Hawkins Simpson - U23 Ward - U23 U18s 9 players, plus a further 9 scholars (at least) signing this year So there are 21 professionals contracted to be here next season - but 6-7 of those are likely to be in U23s bar a good pre season. There are a few first teamers out of contract I'd give a new deal to - Chambers, Toto, Nydam, Bishop, El Mizouni, and there are some above there who I'd try to move on personally - McGavin and maybe Hawkins......plus a few other youngsters who could/should get a deal - Gibbs, Zak Brown, Siziba, Morris, Przybek, Stewart, Alexander, Curtis, Bello. It's going to be a huge change this summer, and going to be very difficult to get us down to a manageable squad size whatever happens if you assume Cook is going to look to bring in 8-10 of his own men

Next season squad as things stand on 18:43 - Apr 6 by Parky | I think Paul Cook likes him, from what I’m lead to believe, anyway. Both scousers, I can see him being a regular under Cook if he gets back to full fitness. [Post edited 6 Apr 2021 18:45]

unbelievably he makes fewer defensive contributions than even our current not-tremendously-combative midfield 2, so I'm not sure how you accommodate that?

He’s scored more than Dozzell and Bishop combined in a quarter the amount of games, he might not be the best player we’ve ever had; but is he really any worse than what we have at the minute? Might be me being optimistic, but I can see Cook getting the best out of him.

Next season squad as things stand on 17:00 - Apr 6 by PhilTWTD | Yes, that's what I'd imagine they'd do. I can't see him fitting in to PC's 4-2-3-1 so sell him and use the cash to bring in other players. |
Evans to use the cash? Really? History tells us otherwise. Maybe a small percentage of it.

Right, but we talk every week about how our midfield aren't good enough defensively, don't dominate the ball and Nolan compares pretty badly for those things. Tackles/90 Dozzell 1.7 Bishop 1.1 Nolan 0.7 Interceptions/90 Dozzell 1.7 Bishop 0.6 Nolan 0.6 Clearances/90 Dozzell 0.9 Bishop 0.9 Nolan 0.3 Passes/90 Dozzell 44.4 Nolan 40.1 Bishop 28.6 (yikes!) Is 8 goals and 0 assists in 61 appearances enough of "goalscoring knack" to accommodate someone who defensively contributes essentially nothing?

I’m not saying Nolan is our saviour and the answer to all of our woes, just stating I don’t think he’s any worse than what we have at the moment and I think Cook will keep him as I’ve heard he likes him. Nolan was one of the best players in the league at Shrewsbury in this division scoring and creating goals, I definitely think he warrants at least a ‘chance’ under Cook.

You'd want Bishop to have a lower number for passes - really don't want him dropping deep and playing one twos with the centre-halfs etc. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He'll have the occasional good game and looks the part, then have a run of 4 or 5 matches and we all wonder why he's starting? He's very much part of that CM posse that is much of a muchness. Keep Downes (if we can), Dozzell is likely to stay due to his contract, but the rest we need to move on.

That might well and probably will be the case, but I’d at least like to give him a chance under Cook. We have nothing to lose by doing so, our midfield has been poor this season; it can’t really get much worse. Who knows, Cook could be the one to get the best out of Nolan as there clearly is a player in there. If not, then get rid, but no harm in trying first.

I like your reasoning Parky, but the time feels right to move on from these guys, if anything they probably need to move away from us and get a fresh start somewhere else.
