I'd just add that a man unable to stop a discussion 'getting heated' (it's reasonable to assume as PM he would chairing the discussion) is
(a) actually incapable of chairing an effective meeting;
(b) demonstrably unfit for any public office whatsoever.

I doubt he was even Claret Monitor at eton.

I like how Laura is also suggesting a justification for the comments.

I mean, in normal times that's a resignation isn't it? It's not just the sentiment that he's prepared to let thousands die to avoid a lockdown, it's the callousness of the way its delivered. Utter contempt for those who have lost their lives or lost loved ones, utter contempt for the rest of us who he sees as expendable to his political will and ambitions.

Curse Boris Johnson, curse this Tory government, and curse anyone who voted for or still supports this sociopathic cabal of inept charlatans.

I've seen lots of people saying "it was out of context" WTF? How can that statement be out of context, absolute horror show of a bloke.

Interesting Peston has categorically denied it was Cummins "I can tell you that the text was not from Cummings or anyone within a mile of him. And the reason I can share that with you, without breaching journalistic etiquette, should be obvious: if the text had come from Cummings, I would have put the news straight out, since he was a 'horse's mouth' authority on this stuff.

"'I understand that a long Covid meeting between PM, Chancellor, Gove and Hancock was held this afternoon. 99 per cent likely there will be a full national lockdown from next Wed or Thurs, currently expected to last until 1 Dec."

Gove's gone quiet.

Absolute car crash of an administration.

It's just astonishing that he's able to so brazenly disregard almost everything that stands in the way of his own ambitions whilst still keeping a big chunk of the electorate onside.

We've had from him "f**k business" when business was opposed to his hard Brexit posturing. We've had him illegally proroguing Parliament and undermining democracy. We've had him jeopardising the union by creating a border in the Irish Sea (despite his shameless denials). We've had him saying we should "take the hit" and let the virus spread pre-first lockdown. We now have him saying we should let the bodies pile up in their thousands rather than lockdown again.

How can one man show such contempt for more or less everything and everyone and still get patted on the back by a large number of supporters? It's utter madness. I genuinely don't recognise this country anymore, it's descended into a collective psychosis.

Was there perhaps a mid-20th century leader whose reign came to an end in April 1945 who showed 'contempt for more or less everything and everyone and still got patted on the back by a large number of supporters'?
