If there was a battle between pigoens and seagulls on 19:12 - May 11 by Cheltenham_Blue | Seagulls all day long. Saw one of those chasing off a grey heron the other day. Didn’t let up on him for a second. |
Ah, the personalities of birds...last week, saw a Black-backed Gull snatch a (big) Greylag gosling out of the water and a young Grey Heron took off after it squawking his head off...flew after him for a good 2-3 minutes until the gull dropped the gosling. Unfortunately wasn't a rescue mission, but the heron stealing himself some lunch...

If there was a battle between pigoens and seagulls on 21:53 - May 11 by Clapham_Junction | If it's one particular gull that does this, I've also seen it in action - saw one in Hyde Park (looks like the same spot) kill a pigeon last year. |
Yep - same one...he's even called the "Pigeon-killing Lesser Black-backed Gull" by the park birders...doesn't stray too far from that spot, as lots of visitors / tourists feed the birds near there, so his usual method is just to wait for the usual feeding frenzy when a flock of 50-100 pigeons arrive - then walks slowly up to the group, grabs one, and drags it off to the water...

Once saw a Herring Gull swallowing whole a Moorhen chick that was still alive and about a quarter of its size - brutal things. Not too up on my crow families (mainly follow water birds), but from what I've seen of them they tend to be sneaky, clever and some work in gangs (e.g. seen a couple os crows jumping about in front of a family of Geese with goslings to distract them while another swoops down picks up a gosling with its feet and flies off...)

Now hold on a second, if we are bringing the Crow family it really shifts the balance of power, there are some big old units getting involved

If there was a battle between pigoens and seagulls on 08:55 - May 12 with 402 views | MattinLondon | Off topic, but until a few years ago I thought seagulls only hunted fish (not including scraps from the ground or dive bombing people eating ice creams etc). Was completely surprised when I saw a seagull pick up a tiny mouse (the little black ones you see on the underground tracks) and bash it against a building before starting to eat it.

If there was a battle between pigoens and seagulls on 18:24 - May 11 by Keno | yep, anything goes |
Wing-to-wing combat, it’s seagulls every time. But with the right firepower I can see pigeons working better in a flock and getting the job done. Gulls are all squawk, giving it the big “I am”.

We just need some of that Hollywood funding (I wonder if the Public Servants of Arizona Pension Fund are interested, I've heard they will throw money at anything...) and a couple of bird costumes...not the ones you keep in the dungeon for Penny...
