Football fans never fail to amaze me.

He was one of few players in the squad that could beat a man, put in a cross, and contribute with his fair share of goals, yet many are glad to see the back of him.

If we can bring in a better player to replace him then great, but that is far from guaranteed. And the suggestion that players whom we have barely even see play are superior to him, just beggars belief.

I am confident that Burns will be a considerable upgrade on Edwards, not necessarily purely on his attributes but also his application and attitude. Perhaps harsh on Edwards but when the going got a bit tough, he tended to vanish from games or had a tendency to run into blind allies/ put tame balls across to the first defender. An 'up and at them' player with lots of energy but not much by way of end product and only really one way of playing. Will probably do alright for a smaller club like Wigan, but obviously their bar for this season will be much lower than ours.

Their 'bar for this season' will not obviously be much lower. They have a similar war-chest to Town's (says the EADT).

Having a warchest is one thing, but it remains to be seen how relevant that is for a club that historically gets very low home crowds and is ultimately restricted by the league one spending rules based on income, more so than we are.

Definitely not comparing the two.

The point i was trying to make is that a large number of fans were hapy to see him go, and how did that work out?

It worked that way because Edwards is nowhere near the same quality.

Edwards wasn't all that bad... but he wasn't all that good either, that really is the long and short of it. Whilst he showed flashes of efficiency, his form was too unreliable.

Now he is at Wigan, I am sure he will become a 20 goal midfielder and a set piece expert over night.
