Though presumably we must be targeting someone else? Can’t see Cook being happy with Holy as back up.

Reported interest doesn't firm anything up...

He’s a realistic target - indeed, it sounds like he’s almost through the door.

He will be signing today if that helps.

You’re probably right. Be interesting to see who our back up keeper is. A 35 year old journeyman or a young keeper with potential. Personally I’m more than happy with Holy as back up. He divides opinion but he’s got a great personality and I think that’s important for someone who’s primary job is to support our number 1. Cook and Phil obviously know better than me though. I can’t see us signing two number one’s to battle it out. If we sign the Salford keeper and someone like Siegrist, we will have one very unhappy goalkeeper.

Holy strikes me as an ideal backup keeper, really. Steady enough at this level that if he has a run of games he isn't actively going to cost you points and seemingly a decent guy to have around the place. The only question would be, having signed him as a Number One from another League One club, could we get someone cheaper who's of similar quality?

the question is, would he want to be a number 2?

If Holy is willing to ply backup, he probably as good a backup as anyone else. I'm sure that Cook will want a clear 1st choice, and not a couple of players bushing to see who is best (or worst)

I don't imagine there are many pro keepers who dream of being a League One backup. If he's under contract and he fits our criteria, then unless you think he's going to a massively disruptive influence then just use him.

Fellow Czech so might help the new guy settle. I’m assuming the new goalkeeper coach will also have a say as to what happens with Holy.
